| Gary insults "Clued-up arseholes" in 'The Wrong Way To Be', so I don't think it's just southern England that use 'arse' over 'ass'. | |

Tbf, if this song is about Pigeon Detectives, and how they rose to fame in an almost default method, I think it's really powerful and effective. As it happens, I do like Pigeon Detectectives, and think their music is catchy. However, comparing them to The Cribs, unfortunately they're nowhere near the Jarman brothers. Not only is this song a dig to Pigeon Detectives, I believe 'Don't You Wanna Be Relevant?' also is. Additionally, the content and message of 'Men's Need's', in my opinion, is also taking a dig at Pigeon Detectives; who heavily feature themes of sex in their songs (From 'You Know I Love You': "You know I love you, take off your clothes. It's alright.". Also, from 'Left Alone': "I hope there's someone in here willing to undress me, so I can get some now."). So at least The Cribs are consistent with their cristicism and content of their own songs, when regarding sex. Anyway, back to this song. I think it's an awesome tune, but what I can't understand is the last line. "You would never exist without us. So maybe I do." "So maybe I do" - what is Ryan talking about here? In the chorus, he sings "I will never regret a thing that I've done, but you would never exist without us. So maybe I." It can't surely be Ryan saying he doesn't regret a thing he's done, then actually saying he does. Can it? On that note, what has Ryan done, that he does/doesn't regret? I reckon the full meaning of the song would be pretty clear if the above points were explained. Sorry for the essay, and help and opinions welcomed. |
