after a bit of searching it seems Portastatic covered the song, not vice versa. i prefer hot chip though, the Portastatic vocalist isnt as good - a nice cover though as for the song i get the feeling of it being someone observing a past acquaintance's failure and guilt that they were no real influence |

is it? im sure its one one one. regardless, the title couples the beat and i think its about three stirke rule - third time lucky - the motif of three the questions at the end seem to ask if anything has been achieved resolved or answered (note the sttriking "one one one" beat has been resolved here too) |

well mastubation could be seen as the simplest form of tuning into yourself.. frequencies and vibrations? i think there is a link to mastubation but it shouldn't override the stronger messages (vibrations) resonating throughout this song. i agree with both above. and i also think it involves connecting with your concience and doing the right thing. talking to yourself, playing with yourself, listening to your heart. theres also the idea of us not getting so caught up in our own lives that we dont forget we must focus our energy further than ourselves in order to save the world . because without the world we have no lives to lead. |

yes, i also love the acoustic. seal just seems to know how to make lyrics resonate and sink in. but does it refer to the relationship in the abstract similie of a fading painting or picture. like the picture/photo/real life is falling apart and decomposing as such and all he can do is close his eyes and block it out or just remember better times? the reoccuring midnight could refer to his dreams and how people drift away, even when together, when we sleep we can wonder off anywhere maybe this is when its most clear to him, during a time where he is awake but wants to dream/maybe doesnt want to dream... god, that was confusing. even i dont know what happened there - i was listening to it and it just carried me off! haha |

when relating this to myself it reminds me of a secret relationship i had, well it wasn't a secret to my friends and a few of his but we never told anyone at college and that created this awkward distance. it didn't work out but it was a funny little thing to be the only ones around us to have seen what was but adjacent to that i don't believe its about that, that was just a personal statement |

i love what mitch_reilly said about this "the scar of true love" this song used to attack me when i was admist a messy and painful break-up - when the scar was open. but when i was getting over it and met someone else it still reminded me of those times but it was fading like a scar... and now, im with that new person and it just brings a reminiscent smile to my face, one of those smiles that, if someone was watching, would ask "why are you smiling?" and you could tell the story, a bit like when someone sees an old scar and asks about the story well i hope that made sense :) |

drawing on from what ellie said i think he takes a step back mentally, the "doo doo" part feels to me like that lalalala im not listening sort of ignorance people do in their heads. but i dont think this is ignorance, i think its just lack of interest, understanding or care maybe? like being happy within yourself... or this could be the POV of an aloof character - ironicly simplistic when people may think theres a thousand thoughts running through that aloof personality. well thats my two cents haha |
