Well I'm happy that I'll be the first to comment on this song. He debuted this song acoustically on the Mayercraft Carrier 2. It's on the new album, Battle Studies. The inspiration and meaning of the song (atleast the way I see it) is pretty straight forward. Its about his relationship with Jen Aniston. The line: "Drop his name, push it in and twist the knife again" is about Brad Pitt. Jen and Brad's was still always being talked about in the Media, I'm sure that was hard for John to deal with. And Jen has been quoted saying that she isn't over Brad. But I love the passion and the openess John can show his fans. The idea of was war of love, with bombs on a battle field is poetic. To me, this is kinda the equivalent to Slow Dancing in a Burning Room from Continuum. Mistake with the above lyrics- "Red wine and ambien" is what he says from what I heard on the news. |

| My take on the song is simple. Through out the year, it's always nice to have a significant other. You're able to share moments with, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Valentine's Day. The year is filled with holidays that commemerate love and relationships. SO when he says to wait until St. Patick's Day, I think it means that its one holiday that doesn't promote love. In fact, I think he could "drink" his problems away becasue of the promotion of alcohol. It would help him, supposedly, get over her. Plus, there wouldn't be another "love" holiday for a while, maybe it would be enough time to get over her. | |

Just to help shed some light on the Hummingbird idea is that the Hummingbird represents a woman. These types of birds and fast, graceful, but hard to keep around. They are extremely timid, and if you don't give them enough space, they won't come around. So in a way, when John says, "Just because I said I didn't want her Doesn't mean I wanted her to go In fact I quite depended on her But then I didn't even think that she knows" He doesn't want her to get scared because he feels too much too soon. Thats what I get from the entire song. This is one of my new favorites, but the list changes all the time. |
