| The Hoosiers – Money To Be Made Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
I used to think it was "your safety is a show" as well, haha, because like, you're surrounded by "walls" so you feel safe, but they're really thin and give you no protection at all. So yeah, fake protection (which would fit in with album 2, come to think of it ;D) I think it's about someone who's been so obsessed with making money and being successful that they've left behind all the "little people". "Put up your barricades, theres money to be made Continue your charades, theres money to be made" Would suggest distancing himself from friends and family and growing cold to them in this quest for success. "What youre asking for means the world to me" Seems to be him complaining about having to do this, at the start of their "quest" "You draw close as you whisper: 'precisely'" Never been sure what this means, but I suppose it could be the person/voice in your head that's convincing him to do this, in a sort of "do it for them to show how much you care" kind of way. "Your safety assured behind those egg-shell walls of yours" The eggshell walls could be these lame justifications for their behaviour. I'm sure the friends and family would prefer to have their loved-one back than be wealthy and successful. "Friends and family glide by on wings of faith / Faithlessly I don't recognise a face" Could be suggesting that despite all this distancing, the friends and family see this as something he really wants, and so they still have faith in him and are supporting him because they care about him. However, it's been so long since he spent any proper time with them it's like they're strangers, and it feels like he's been unfaithful to them all. "Take this sorry soul / I've made enough of a mess on my own" Could be regrets for his actions, but maybe it's now too late and he can't get that lost bonding time or relationship strength back. Ahhhh, I wrote an essay, sorry! XD Can you tell I'm procrastinating? :p |

| The Hoosiers – Everything Goes Dark Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Uh, I thought it was really obvious that the line is: But I can't see / It's getting LATE Lol, 'cause it's about darkness, and goes with the next line of "in the night we make mistakes". I love this song, but the original version (when they were still The Hoosier Complex) KILLS me. Way more emotive and dark. I agree with exitmould. I've always thought this song was about how obsessed with appearance humanity in general is (as opposed to one girl/model) and how, if we couldn't see, would we stop fussing over material things? The Hoosiers themselves have said that the theme of the album is "the trick to life is not to get too attached to it", and this song fits that theme, suggesting that we shouldn't be so obsessed with all the tiny details like how we look and what we have, when you could be out, living life to the full and having fun. |

| The Ting Tings – That's Not My Name Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I agree with rukmini, I think its about a girl who's not the clubbing type, but she "Don’t wanna be a loner" so she tries it, after a lot of "should I, shouldn't I". But because she's shy she's not too good at the small talk and chatting up ("It’s a difficulty and I’m biting on my tongue and I/I keep stalling, keeping me together") So even though she introduces herself a lot, she's not memorable, like in TV shows where unpopular girls talk to people and they have to keep pausing and asking what their name is again, or using the wrong name for them. "I miss the catch if they through me the ball/I’m the last kid standing up against the wall" could be about the fact that even when people do try to talk to her, she messes up and they lose interest, so nobody comes to talk to her. "Keep up, falling, these heels they keep me boring/Getting glammed up and sitting on the fence now" - because she's not used to clubbing, she might not wear heels a lot (I know I don't) so she wobbles and trip a lot, which makes her unappealing and boring to other people. She's gotten all dressed up and now she's regretting coming out because it's no fun. |

| The Ting Tings – Fruit Machine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think this song is about a girl who's treated badly by her boyfriend, like he doesn't pay attention to her, or spend time with her, cheating on her, etc ("You thought you could turn and walk away/Taking chances that weren’t yours to take") and to make up for it, he buys her presents and things ("Putting in change systematically"). "Winning streak that you had over me" shows how she would always fall for it and forgive him. Now though, she's caught on and is either milking it for all its worth ("Where’s the money? Can’t hear that clinking") and possibly keeps threatening to leave him just so that she can a) get more stuff and b) get her revenge. I'm thinking it might be about gambling too, since theres the line "Thought of bandits leading you astray" and a fruit machine is also known as a One-Armed Bandit. So either its a reference to him taking a gamble by being so reckless with their relationship, or he actually has a gambling problem that has "led him astray". But these are all just ideas. XD Sorry I wrote so much, I just kept thinking of more D: |

| The Cat Empire – Till the Ocean Takes Us All Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I love this song, its one of my faves from the album ^-^ i think the line "I'll love you till the ocean takes us all" is just so sweet and a really original way of saying "I'll love you forever" | |
| The Cat Empire – Sunny Moon Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think its about how, as a musician, sometimes you lose inspiration and get artists block or something. The first verse (IMO) describes how he feels when playing the piano/making music ("I climb the ladder of those black and white keys") and how it can take you to another place completely. ("They take me out and into places some are real some are imaginary...") The next verse tells how inspiration has suddenly struck again, after not being able to come up with anything for a while. ("Tonight I see the sunny moon is rising again/Three seasons passed since you were here...") I've had that before, where you get a block for a really long time, and start to wonder if you've lost it, but then it comes back and you feel all relieved and go back to doing whatever ("And I see that you were glowing in the shadows/And you've been here all along/Ah you never left my side") with so much more enthusiasm ("now I feel my arms grow/Stronger") The third for me seems to be a reminder or a warning, to never forget how you felt when you first discovered the joy mentioned in the first verse ("You may forget the details and you can forget the dates but never/ Forget the moment when the light revealed her face...") I think that the line "To be poor by lack of money but by god be rich in prize" is about maybe being a musician/artist who isn't successful, and might not be making much money, but they're rich in spirit because of what they can create, and because they love what they do. And, uh, the rest of the song is missing, and i don't have the song handy to listen to :/ Sorry I wrote so much ^^; |

| The Cat Empire – Siente Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think I read on the forums (on TCE's website) that sangangui is like...an old term for bad luck or something. I think its a mix of french and spanish? I read it a while ago so I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure it means "bad luck" | |
