Could I possibly write more?? haha, I left out what I think is my favorite part. If you all watched the version that is on YouTube, he puts a lot of stress/enfasis/emotion of pain into the lines, "But tell me do you still feel this, Tell me do you still feel this." Love it. |

Well, of course, we are all going to have our own opinions and I like/agree with what you all have posted so far! I love this song and Say Anything. I hadn't heard anything about this song being written about his fiance, but if that's true then it definitely fits, but I get mixed opinions from the lyrics. I feel its about both his fiance and about God. Like AllChokedup said, " It's about somebody who's restored his hope, specifically in life and the afterlife" His wife obviously has strong faith, "There's no one who imagines like you, You're convinced there's somewhere that we go to" is Heaven. The first class ticket to the abyss is where he's headed if he kills himself, but God won't let him.."Nothing seems to turn out right" during his failed attempts. God has other plans for him. He isn't sure still if he is going to heaven for both trying to kill himself (or whoever the person is, hopefully is figuratively speaking. Idk if you know anything, but was Max ever suicidal?? I didn't think so anyway..) and for the way he lives with little faith, that's why he will tell God he is with his wife (you), who HAS stuck with him through his hard times and he really is a great person at heart. Visa versa, if he goes to hell "in that lake of fire" he won't tell them he is with her because then i guess she would have to come to hell too for loving him, who, had little faith?? I guess im not sure, but that would be the reason why the last thing he'll do is say he's with "you". For whatever reason though, "you" is the person who is helping him all throughout his life on Earth, but also has a distant relation with God. Weather he has restored his faith or not by the end I'm not sure, and obviously he's not either. But then again no one knows for sure who's gettin' in or not, just gotta have faith!! |

When you're at home i think is more literal than a lot of people are making it out to sound too. I believe he is talking about physically being at home, and during these times in his life when he is back visiting he is able to spend time with a girl/his girl. Every time is like starting new because they never had a real relationship, just an awesome bond as friends but could never get anything to work out because of this distance that is keepin him away from "home". He is constantly wondering where else they both could be if they had tried to work something out, or if life had just taken another course how differently things would be. But i don't believe that "homes face, how it ages when you're away" describes the act of no longer being attracted to their love as they're are grown apart, but not physically. They might still have a special bond, but if none the other wants to work out the issues, their are plenty of other possibilities on the streets and lets quite wasting one another's time. In the song he doesn't shed a tear because he knew that it was either make or break, and the best thing that could have happened did when they broke up because they were both free, even tho it hurt a lot. No longer a burden in the relationship...start over and get over it, you'll only be good friends. |
