| I'd also like to add that the first 4 minutes are describing the walls caving in on him, whereas the second half of the song the walls of his disease are crumbling. The first pains him, the later inspires him. | |

| I think you are correct. It would make sense. If it thats what it says, this song is even better. | |

This song completely covers Andrew's fight with cancer; the highs and lows of the battle. The first half of Caves is solemn and placid, describing his depressing and weakened existence. "No peace Just clicking machines In the quiet of compazine. The walls caved in on me." Compazine is a drug used to treat nausea and vomiting caused by radiation therapy. "And she sings My bird dressed in white. And she stings My arm in the night." Obviously referring to the nurses who do a lot of blood-work while patients are asleep. "And out here I watch the sun circle the earth The marrows collide in rebirth In God's glory praise The spirit calls out from the caves. The walls fell and there I lay Saved." This is referring to the bone-marrow transplant he received from his sister, Katie, which turned the tide in his battle against Leukemia. Immediately following this stanza he enters into an upbeat, piano-rock driven tempo exemplifying his victory and sacrifice over cancer, and symbolizes his decision to move on with his life. Beautiful song, beautiful lyrics. |
