Shinedown – Second Chance Lyrics 16 years ago
If you watch the video, you could understand the intended meanings. Doing for yourself, making a choice that might hurt others but you know it is the right time. The comet reference strikes a chord with me. To me, the comet is returning and saying 'why are you still here?' The man in the moon is trickier, but I take it to mean that the most familiar appearances change when the environment (stratosphere) changes. Meaning: get off your arse and go ... this reminds me when I left for college, I had no choice but to better myself and work toward a self-sustaining future. Meanwhile, my siblings were left at home to deal with an ugly divorce and custody issues. Everyone viewed my leaving for college as abandonment, but it was the only choice I had to help in the long run...

Incubus – Black Heart Inertia Lyrics 16 years ago
Shamless self plug here, since it shares my ideology.

"BLACK HEART"
(excerpt from "Bagging the Phoenix")

A wicked end
to no avail,
inside me its death
implodes a cavity,
an immensity
obscuring the pulse of life.
Once beating
a fruitful propensity,
this cavern ingesting
the light from my iris–
their clairvoyance
disrupted by my mortality.
Turbulent palpations,
tempest upon squall,
a lithic manifestation–
this hole is diabolic.
Rapt in aphrodesia!
How succinct,
how perilous,
is this nexus …
vivifying,
nullifying,
eternally reprising.

Apocalyptica – S.O.S. (Anything But Love) (Feat. Cristina Scabbia) Lyrics 16 years ago
I am a big Apocalyptica fan, but mostly their instrumental pieces. This is my favorite of their pairings. I feel like the density in her voice gets lost in Lacuna Coil, but is empowering here. It's easy to relate to this song from my standpoint. Someone in a dominant position in a relationship obsessing over possessing her with everything (wealth, pain, status)without giving her l-o-v-e. She knows this, she wants to fight back. Love the video, everything going up in fiery masses with her volatile words. The cold visual tones returning as she retreats. Fabulous ... Save Me ...

Lloyd Cole & The Commotions – Rattlesnakes Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with jonasminduim. Personally, the Tori Amos version is easier for me to identify with because it is sung by a woman. Further interpretation shows a search for meaning as Simone de Beauvoir was a French author and philosopher (existentialist) who wrote The Second Sex among other writings and was involved in a lifelong relationship with Jean-Paul Sartre. To cautious for fear of being hurt, on the fence about regret, trying to make up for lost time and risk ... it's all here. Who doesn't feel this? I love this song, so so much.

Radiohead – Street Spirit (Fade Out) Lyrics 17 years ago
From my "personal" perspective, this song means that we are Here in the present, under much duress to a truthful and inevitable end, despite our efforts. It is the dark circle of life, we explode into life (like the big bang) and implode to an end, swallowed whole like a black hole ... However, the last few lines "Immerse your soul in love" could mean Just That, immerse yourself in love so that the present and the end are each not as perilous. We all fade out. I think the lyrics and the sound give us chills because they strike chords on all levels ... the beauty of the melody opposing the dark lyrics. We are drawn to it, because we live amid that cycle.

Switchblade Symphony – Wallflower Lyrics 17 years ago
To me, this song means (she) being tired of complacency and struggle and getting to the top already ... she's coming into a personal period of growth and transformation, albeit further insecurities and struggle. She's been underground and the seed within/the cold underdeveloped kernel needs the warmth and nurturing of the sun.
