The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – One Million Reasons Lyrics 17 years ago
It's a pretty straightforward song. The guy doesn't want his girlfriend to leave him, but he realizes that arguing is futile with her, even though he has one million reasons that she shouldn't leave him. It IS rather lively for a breakup song.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – Riot On Broad Street Lyrics 17 years ago
I may be digging too deep here, but I think that they're comparing themselves to the Irish rioters. In protesting social change, the MMB's are a lot like the Irish, who viewed themselves as oppressed by the British. Mainly because they were oppressed by the British.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – The Skeleton Song Lyrics 17 years ago
Oh, and the closing is telling people to be honest with themselves now so they won't realize, surprisingly, that they don't like where they've trodden.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – The Skeleton Song Lyrics 17 years ago
The song is about the singer's past and secrets catching up with him and the memories leaving him in a sad state. He had to face the challenges that these memories brought, or his skeletons (referring to the term "a skeleton in the closet," meaning a secret) and unexorcised demons (referring to inner demons, a common saying for inner turmoil) would drag him down.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – The Impression That I Get Lyrics 17 years ago
It's 2008, and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones still rule, though I don't think I've heard a song by them that I like more than this one.

It's a song that's been misinterpreted as a statement about AIDS.

It's a song whose chorus many people don't understand. Never had to *knock on wood,* meaning I don't want to take it for granted.

And yet it's a song people can relate to when they do understand it. We're all grateful, or at least realize we should be grateful, that we aren't as bad off as poor old Jimbo over there *knock on wood*.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones – High School Dance Lyrics 17 years ago
"The first time I heard this, I thought it was extremely cheesey, and I didn't like it becuase it was too 'different' from MMBs typical stuff. But this song kinda grows on you, and it really does make you wanna dance!"
Can anyone explain to me why this song is cheesey, and why ANYONE would want to bust out dancing to such a sad song? I must say, this is taking the song at face value a LOT. Use your brain when listening to music, skacore dude, or start listening to pop. I'm sorry, but I'm very sensitive about misinterpreting song lyrics.

Everyone else that commented, thank you for understanding the lyrics of a great (though unconventional song) by a great band.

Crush 40 – Live & Learn Lyrics 17 years ago
Does anyone know if this song was written for SA2? In the context of the events just before the climax, this was a great song choice for that game.

The song is about relying on and being strong in yourself, because if you beg or if you borrow, you may never find your way.

Portal – Still Alive Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree with all the lyric interpretations so far, except one. I think Glados was either being sarcastic or lying when it said it was happy for Chell. We saw in the game that Glados is both a little smartypants, and a liar. Between the two, it's impossible to believe that Glados was ACTUALLY happy for Chell.

Glados says, "I'm not even angry. I'm being so sincere right now, even though you broke my heart and killed me. And tore me to pieces. And threw every piece into a fire." That sounds like a very sarcastic remark in that context.

THE CAKE IS A LIE!

Eleventyseven – MySpace Lyrics 17 years ago
It's not about being judgmental, either. The singer is being FORCED to judge by the cover because the person being addressed, presumably a friend, is ONLY showing a cover. "I know that it's wrong to form an opinion on only what I see." I don't want to judge based on appearances. "But in my defense it's really hard to know when myspace is the only thing that you ever show." I can't help judgin based on your appearance because your appearance is all that there is.

Eleventyseven – MySpace Lyrics 17 years ago
The song isn't about Myspace. It's a lot deeper than that. Myspace is a symbol for either pretending to be something you're not, or hiding what you really are. Pretending to have friends when you know they aren't really your friends, revealing superficial information (and the way you love sunsets), and faking feelings you don't have are all themes in the song. The bridge, "When you finally resurface," etc., could be viewed in the context of Eleventyseven being a semi-Christian band.

Lol, I actually did a term paper on this song a few semesters ago.

3 Doors Down – Kryptonite Lyrics 17 years ago
The first verse is about the singer taking some time out to think, though while he was thinking he was watching the world go to hell in a handbasket.

The second verse is about the singer revealing that the "friend" is the reason things all went wrong. He then concludes that he doesn't care what happens to everything and everyone else as long as "you'll be my friend at the end."

The first two lines of the chorus are asking the friend if he'll be loyal. The third line is the singer saying he'll do whatever he can to keep him close. The word kryptonite at the end brings attention to the fact that he's keeping the friend close even though he's the singer's own weakness, and keeping him close will eventually lead to his death.

The third verse is talking about how even though he's mean to him, the singer will always be loyal to the friend.

And that's it, except for repeated choruses! YAY!

And now my rant. *facepalm* I want to tell all of you who say that the song is ONLY about Superman, or ONLY about the artist comparing himself to Superman that you need to learn to be a little deeper in your thinking. That's an extremely narrow scope of thinking, and it's more than a little shallow. I hate to think that this many people are this incapable of artistic interpretation. If you can't be any more meaningful than this, then just stop listening to music. Please.
