| Funeral for a Friend – Beneath The Burning Tree Lyrics | 17 years ago |

"i sat beneath the burning tree i never gave my world away (maybe i should, maybe i could) i sat beneath the burning tree i never gave my world away (maybe i should, maybe i could)" A burning bush is a Christian symbol of virginity, which fits into what others have said so far, about this song being about sex, the losing of innocence/virginity, and sex destroying the romance/love in a relationship. "I never gave my world away (maybe i should, maybe i could" This to me is a reference to falling in love, and fully commiting yourself to one person in a relationship, and devoting your life to them. It's about being vulnerable with someone and open, and letting someone into your life. So in short, he's saying despite losing his virginity and experiencing sex, he has never experienced true love, but maybe he is ready to do so now, maybe he is able to give himself to another. |

| Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think this song is about the aftermath of a relationship Imogen must of had with someone she was in love with. I think 'Spin me around again and rub my eyes/ This can't be happening' refers to the shock an abrupt end to a relationship can cause, and about having to readjust to single life in the aftermath of a break up I think "Trains and sewing machines" is about the monotony of some relationships (with the noise of a moving train and sewing machine being a constant, repeated monotonous sound), I think the title Hide and Seek refers to the silly games that couples can end up playing I think the ending is great, I think its about cutting the bullshit out of break ups and relationships, its a slightly empowered, slightly bitter rant against the cliches people might use during a break up. 'Mm what'cha say? Mm, that you only meant well Well of course you did Mm what'cha say? Mm that it's all for the best Of course it is Mm what'cha say? Mm that it's just what we need You decided this? Mm what'cha say? Mm what did she say?' I think the outro: "Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth Mid-sweet-talk newspaper word cutouts (paper word cutouts) Speak no feeling; no, I don't believe you You don't care a bit You don't care a bit" Is a sort of realisation that maybe the guy she loved wasn't as great as she thought, that having had time to reflect, she realises the relationship wasn't as perfect as she thought, and ultimately, she was better off without |
