| Tori Amos – Snow Cherries from France Lyrics
| 14 years ago

I did wonder what was going on in this relationship, so I did consult some Tori interview stuff to see. In one interview, she talks about how she created this woman (who changed many times in the 7 years it took to figure her out), who "deep down, knew he was a wanderer. And she took the risk anyway." She is in love with a man with wanderlust - maybe both metaphorically AND literally. Tori also says, "deep down she knows that eventually he's going to go -- because that's what he does -- she offers her hand, after a fashion, and he offers her snow cherries from France, which sound delicious, but don't exist." He cannot give anything over to her but his fantasy and can only bring him with her so far before he needs to go off again.
What a beautiful song, but so sad. |

| Suzanne Vega – Left Of Center Lyrics

Idk I hear it more as being interested in, or loving someone but not being central in his life. You're on the fringes of his life, barely appearing in his bigger picture, but still present and longing for him. |

| Suzanne Vega – Pornographer's Dream Lyrics
| 17 years ago

Seems self-explanatory, but I'll just mention that I saw Suzanne Vega last night and she explained how she had read in a book about Elizabeth Taylor how she was "a pornographer's dream". Suzanne Vega wondered what a pornographer really dreams about, since they are privy to more parts of a woman than most people are - literally. Since people tend to dream about/long for that which they cannot have, and pornographers actually get to realize that "hidden" sexuality within women, what is it they actually dream about? Is it something more? That is what the song expresses. |
