| Blackalicious – If I May Lyrics

Incredible song. Love Blackalicious, so friggin talented. don't know a lot of personal stuff about the band (such as religious beliefs) but know that they are a positive-tip rap group which falls in line with this song whether it be about finding God or just being spiritual within yourself it speaks to someone about enlightning themselves and uplifting them. I think the song (like most good songs) could speak to a varied situations such as someone who wants something but isn't doing much about getting it. Or someone who is drowning in problems and can't seem to get out of it. Or someone who is looking to change their charachter or motivations, perhaps as a result of substance abuse.
It's a song that is a call to action to better oneself and/or their situation. The lyrics are incredible and the song itself is so good. Love the chorus: "We're climbin' over Beneath the sea March on Time is almost gone It's all in me - No maybe" to climb over from beneath the sea is just a metaphor for trying to get to the surface, being drowned. |

| Jens Lekman – Pocketful of Money Lyrics

one of my favorite jens lekman songs. the lyrics to me are just what i think of him: impulsive and candid but oh so beautiful.
i see the girl who he sings this song too initially responding brashly and unimpressed: "can't say you're pretty" "oh take me someplace decent" To say to a woman that you've got money that your looking to throw away, and that she should take the lead by planning the evening and picking the place, isn't traditional male courtship - but when it comes to the chorus (and huanting smaple) "you set my heart on fire" what person could remain uncharmed by such words?

I LOVE this song. Carlo's voice is fantastic. The lyrics and music are amazing and so energetic it sends this "lets go!" attitude and anticipation cursing through my veins. The organ solo is awesome, love the guitar, and the drums/bongos - and even though its such a hopeful song- it gives me chills the way the guitar trails off at the end almost as if now comes the unknown..... |

with regards to the lines hunger hurts but starving works.
She's basically "fasting" her emotions. hunger hurts because you want something you have a craving. but starving works b/c you completely cut it off.
that's what that means to me - she's cutting him out completely to spare her own devestating feeling of dissapointment (cost to much to love) |

I always associate people migrating to california in search of fame and something better...he's saying to her she dosen't need to go to cali (hollywood) to find a leading man he can be that for her here and now. i also like the line about him missing her like missing the ocean. It's interesting - maybe it's b/c Jennings is from Minneapolis but I imagine this song taking place in the midwest, where there is no ocean. so he loves her (and will "miss her...") like something he never had but could appreciate like the ocean. |
