It's obvious what the song is about and it's another example of Gary's brilliant way of telling the story without a rhyming scheme. He's also the best at phrase repitition to drive home the emotion. |

Gary is the master at writing beautiful songs with no ryhming patterns. It must be very freeing to write without rhyming |

The line "Blue you sit so pretty West of the one" I think is brilliant...I don't live in Ca so it wasn't as obvious to those of us who don't live there. |

Why would Ronnie need to audition for DP. You either want Ronnie or you don't. He had already worked with RB in Rainbow and was a superstar back then anyway. I call BS on this. |

I saw them this year in Houston and before the played this song Ed said it was in tribute to all the band they grew listening to in the 80's. |

In thier Live DVD, called home, Ed says the song is dedicated to his dad and at the end of the song they show a photo of his dad with his YoB and YoD. His father was an ordained minister and was quite close to him and I assumed was a big influence on him, hence the line, Who's gonna wear my crown. It's a reference to Jesus wearing a crown of thorns to atone for our sins. It's a great line. |
