This is not where the All American Rejects got their name. Maybe they registered it subconciously, but they do not claim to have gotten it from here.
Am I the only person who saw the Bikini Kill reference? The song "Reject All American." The ALBUM "Reject All American"? Hellooooo? |

| Daft Punk – Human After All Lyrics

Well, I think that it can be about the dehumanization of society and have the message about people forgetting their humanity and still have the metamorphosis element that they were going for in the first place. Their change back into humans from robots (as they originally went for) was symbolic of them revealing that underneath society is still human. I always heard "Much in common" instead of "Flesh uncovered," but I think that both can contribute to this meaning. "Flesh uncovered" adds to the statement that humanity is being hidden with technology. "Much in common" could be them saying everyone is fast moving, new, and isolated but deep below we are all still human. Beautiful song. |

| Green Day – Maria Lyrics

His sister's name is Marci, not Maria. I think Maria is more of a concept than a real person. I agree with whoever said that she is a symbol for punk, anarchy, and passion for a cause. "Maria, where did you go?" means "where has the spirit of the rebellion gone?"
"Be careful what you're offering, your breath lacks the conviction," is about how no people are being half-assed about everything now. |

Maybe it's a song that isn't about drugs. If so many other songs on the album are about them, maybe when you disconnect the dots and traditional composition of an album, not everything has to have this intense deeper meaning and sometimes a pretty song is just a pretty song and it doesn't have to join up with some bigger picture. Sometimes an album should have an open-ended meaning and there's a clean slate with no lines connecting the dots and it's about possibility and that no one is quite wrong or quite right when thinking about it. |

Though I picked the thorny path myself
I'm afraid, afraid of where it leads
These lines kind of make me think drug use might be a part of it, like he's regretting deciding to do them, but still kind of hoping they'll help with depression. Drugs are probably a little bit part there, but not the theme of the entire song. |

| Tilly and the Wall – Rainbows in the Dark Lyrics

I think this song is also partially about sticking it to the emo kids who argue whose life sucks more. It's basically saying shut the fuck up because other people have screwed up live and manage not to complain all the time and if you let it get to you and dwell on it they win because then it has successfully ruined you. Suck it up. Let it go. You can't hold back the river (you can't stop life from happening). Then it talks about all those different aspects towards the end and it's like appreciate the good and the bad because they're all seams that make up the whole of your life.
I think it's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. |

| Tilly and the Wall – Poor Man's Ice Cream Lyrics

I think it has something to do with the Berlin Wall or just being on the bad end of segregation. The "flag out of steel" and "they built a wall out of bricks, made it real long, made sure that everyone could see it" is what made me think about the Berlin wall/the Iron Curtain. A lot of it seemed to be about living in a hard time ("A canvas bag to fit it all"), watching out for the government ("they" and "we" are distinct from each other), and being confused ("yeah what do you want from us?"). "Lines, lines, lines," "which way are you supposed to fear," "this is not your home, you do not belong," "you may not come in here," and "whose land are you standing on?" are all like declaring a side or more like being assigned to a side. |
