| Rise Against – Hero of War Lyrics | 15 years ago |

I love this song. I have just started listening to Rise Against because they seem to stand up for a lot of issues. The first time I heard about them was when I watched their video for Ready to Fall, that they did for PETA. This song is powerful. I see it as a kid who, when recruited, is told of how honourable it is to go to war and represent his country. How awesome it would be to see the world and come back a hero. He isn't told how it could negatively impact him. How it could change how he feels about the world in a negative way. He isn't told the truth about it, in a sense. Then he gets there. At first he feels guilty about doing these horrible things to other people. Then he desensitizes himself like the rest of his troops and joins in. He tries to save the woman with the white flag. To try and convince her to step back so she wouldn't get hurt. But then, because he is ordered to or because he conforms, he raises his gun and shoots. She ends up being an innocent civilian. He then comes back. Everyone says he's a hero and he says, "Hero? Is that what they all see?" because he knows what really happened out there. He doesn't consider himself a hero. |

This song is amazing. I love Greenday. I think they are by far one of the best bands out there. This is what Billie Armstong, one of the song writers, told Q. This song addresses the topic of patriotism. Frontman and chief songwriter Billie Joe Armstrong told Q magazine May 2009: "It brings up 21st Century Breakdown in a lot of ways, and the 21 gun-salute for someone that's fallen, but done in an arena rock 'n' roll sort of way." However, as with many good songs, it can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people. To me, when I listen to this song, I think of a fighter in life. Some people fight their fights to the point that they're ruined, and sometimes you need to know when to give up. You need to know, in life, what is worth fighting to the end for. |

| I think it's about discovering who you are when you're not in a relationship. It's about reconnecting with friends, family, discovering you have more people around you for support than a boy/girl friend. | |

| A great love song about capturing a moment in your loved one's arms. | |

A lot of things in life are measured by your first experience doing it. Sex, many times, is one of those things. This song is so obvious that it is about a man of a higher power molesting vulnerable children. Those children grew up thinking sex was supposed to be like that and if they didn't get it like that again, they weren't loved, and possibly after that they began to cut or slash their wrists. This song is so powerful and can speak to anyone who has been molested by someone in their childhood, possibly by a relitive or someone they trust. Awesome powerful song. |

| George Michael – Father Figure Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Okay, I know most people are going to think I'm completely off my rocker when I say what I think this song means. I downloaded it today and thought about it and listened to it over and over. Maybe it's because I'm unbiased. When I listened to this song, I didn't know George Michael was gay and I didn't know most of this songs tended toward a sexual nature. But I've always says that, based on one's experiences in life, what makes a song a great song is that it can mean different things to different people. I have a hard time thinking that George Michael wrote a song called Father Figure to a lover. I find that sort of insestual and disturbing. When I heard the song, I thought of it litterally. I thought of it as a friend, probably older, reaching out to a friend in need who has lost someone, perhaps their own father, or feels alone in life. This older gentleman is telling this younger person, I can be a father figure. I can step in to fill that void. Then I thought, well that doesn't explain the parts where he talks about being naked. But really, it does if you don't think of naked in the litteral sense. I hear it as he wants to be exposed and bare his soul to this person and have no secrets. He wants to be this person's father, family, and support system always. |

Let's not forget that, regardless of what the song meant to the artist themself, what makes a song a good song is that it can mean many different things to many different people based on their life experiences. I love this song and for a long time, I couldn't figure out what it meant to me. Then my friend downloaded some Evanescence music the other day and asked me about it, which inspired me to find out what people were saying about it, and really sit down to read the words as the song played. For me, when I listen to the song, I think of someone who is the victim of (repeated) rape. The person in the song wants to hide. She feels helpless, scared, and torn. The lyric in this song that screams at me the most is "There's no where to run, so let's just get it over." I hear the rapist saying this to his victim. |

I just joined for the purpose of analysing this amazing song. I love reading what others had to say about it. I'm not too fond of the comments that say "This is what the artist says so it must be this..." What makes a song a great song is that it can be interpreted in many ways to many different people, depending on their own personal battles. When I listen to this song, I hear the voice of someone who has been addicted to drugs and alcohol and probably has had some suicidal tendancies. There is one special person in his life, be it his mom or his girlfriend or whatever, who has been there for him with unconditional love and support throughout his battle. Now, he wants her to let go. He wants her to forget about him and let herself live her own life in happiness. It's hard to watch a close friend or family member destroy themselves with drugs, alcohol, and suicide. He wants her to find the happiness and freedom he believes she will find if she is not having to be preoccupied with him. Amazing song! |
