I agree it could have something to do with the Crusades. But read this article, I believe, after reading this, it may not necessarily have to do with the Crusades: Outremer, French (outre-mer) for "overseas", was the general name given to the Crusader states established after the First Crusade: the County of Edessa, the Principality of Antioch, the County of Tripoli and especially the Kingdom of Jerusalem. The name was often used as an equivalent to Levant, Syria or Palestine, and incorporated areas that are today part of Israel, Jordan, Syria, Turkey and Lebanon. The term could also be used for any other land "overseas"; Louis IV of France was called "Louis d'Outremer" as he was raised in England. I feel fireinthedawn is right on the arrow with the concept of a third force. I have noticed a lot of significance placed around the number 3, and sometimes even 9 in VNV Nation's music, artwork, and other little things. Examples include: VNV Nation is 9 letters; V N V is 3 letters; Advance and Follow is 3 words; The Cover of Matter and Form depicts two opposing alchemical symbols, with the VNV Logo in between, balancing them both; Matter and Form is 3 words; The Cover of Empires is divided into three separate regions, with 3 letters out of 'VNV Nation" spread across each segment, Also, the cover has two "blue" flames, one Red Flame, the two empty blue spaces, the empty black space, and the VNV Nation and Empires title, and the VNV Logo, a total of 9 separate pieces; There are 3 Beloved EPs (the 3rd was a 12 inch containing 4 mixes by Hiver and Hammer, which can be seen on the VNV Nation Discography on their website); There are 9 variant mixes of Beloved available, assuming you do not count either the Radio edit or Futureperfect version; Beloved.1 contains 3 separate mixes of Beloved; Genesis.1 and Genesis.2 both contain 3 variant mixes of Genesis; Standing EP and Burning Empires both depict 3 bars of light descending towards the VNV Nation logo, and Standing EP contains 3 mixes of Standing; Darkangel contains 3 tracks, and the artwork has 9 lines or objects in orange; darkangel is 9 letters; There are 3 mixes of Darkange by VNV Nationl: The original, Gabriel, and Azrael; (there is, however, the 4th "Apocalyptic Mix" by Das Ich) Solitary EP contains 3 mixes of Solitary; The "I Want Justice" design at the bottom of their website is 3 words. This is an amazing song, between the lyrics, vocals and music. I really am not sure what it really means to me as of yet. What I was wondering, though, is if the line "How many years since you found yourself staring at an endless sky?" means "How many years have passed since the person 'found themselves' while staring at an endless sky," or rather, asking "how many years have passed since the person last stared at an endless sky?" I was just wondering what your opinion on the line is, if even either. I honestly think it could be both, or something completely different. Reply please =] |
