Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics 15 years ago
One of the most emotionally wrenching rock songs about a love gone bad. The line "I know you'll be a sun In somebody else's sky, but why, Why, why can't it be, why can't it be mine?"

Pure poetry, and sung in such a way that it only adds to the power of the words. Pearly Jam's finest moment by far.

Fleetwood Mac – Man Of The World Lyrics 16 years ago
Such a heartfelt song, Green really nails it, he's been around the world and bagged more than his share but has no one to go home to at the end of the day.

Badfinger – Meanwhile Back At The Ranch/Should I Smoke Lyrics 16 years ago
An amazing song, the way it was constructed, out of two separate compositions, one by Pete Ham, the other part by Joey Molland I believe. Just a classic 70's rocksong, a lost nugget from an under appreciated band.

Cream – As You Said Lyrics 16 years ago
Such and unusual song from a great band. I wouldn't describe this as a 'rock song', just a great song. It has a melancholy flair to it, not unlike "Passing the Time". Must be the cello coupled with Jack Bruce's plaintive wail, especially when he says "The sun... is out... of reach!"

Love – Alone again or Lyrics 16 years ago
Tremendous song....I first heard this 20 years ago on the radio in New Jersey....didn't know the song name or artist. Waited for the DJ to tell me and he NEVER did. The melody bugged me for years, couldn't remember the actual lyrics, so I couldn't google it either. But I could hum the melody of this unknown song.

Finally, I was in a Starbucks awhile ago, this song came over their sound system. I asked the barista, "Who sings this song???" They checked their system for me... the person came back and said "Calexico". I'm like 'huh'?? They couldn't spell it for me. Finally, figured out there is a band Calexico and they did a cover version of this song (pretty good too). But I prefer Love's version. Great horns and violin. Lyrics are a bit dated "I could love almost anyone"... a bit cheesey, but sung in a heartfelt way.

Sondre Lerche – Maybe You're Gone Lyrics 17 years ago
This song makes me think of someone waiting in a French cafe for their love to show, unsure of whether it's in vain or not.

Sondre Lerche – Virtue And Wine Lyrics 17 years ago
Sondre's songs are hard to figure out. I think he writes them in Norweigan and then translates to English and something is lost in the translation.

In this song he talks about a chemical environment, which could be drug use or living a lifestyle at odds with his own. Virtue and Wine, alcohol use is not considered a virtue by some, so it could be a metaphor for conflicting lifestyles.
