My best friend found a letter that her boyfriend had written to his ex. It said something along lines of 'yeah, i have a girl friend now but i'd leave her in a heartbeat for you.' Needless to say, my friend was distraught.
I immediately thought of this song. Just like Helena, my friend was nothing more than a filler girlfriend. |

So the narrator is probably a guy (at least it was a man that wrote it, although I have no personal issues with this song being about a failed lesbian relationship).
In short, I think that's the gist of it. The narrator fell deeply in love with this sabra girl during a hard time in his/her life. S/he read into the his love interest's manner of speaking and/or letters and thought that they could be together and was crushed when she said they could be friends. |

Now I don't know what to believe.
The impression I got from just hearing it, however, was of a bandit. Someone who lived hard and died young, and never really got the chance to be anything else. |
