Animal Collective – Banshee Beat Lyrics | 14 years ago |
An earlier poster mentioned that the song was all about seizing the day and I agree completely. There's the idea that this life might be all we get and if so I'm never going to get a chance to go in a swimming pool again. I've always loved these lines as well. But I don't wish that I was dead A very old friend of mine once said that either way you look at it you have your fits I have my fits but feeling is good Sometimes life can hurt pretty bad but overall I'm so happy that I have feelings. Very simple, very true. |

I think there are a lot of existentialist themes in the song. A basic idea of existentialism is that people are afraid to accept responsibility for their actions and their complete freedom. Thus people, turn to religion or predestination as a way of alleviating pressure from themselves. I think in these lines especially Brock is illustrating how people don't want to face the fact that they make themselves who they are and are accountable for the choices they make. Everyone's afraid of their own life If you could be anything you want I bet you'd be disappointed, am I right? |

And Sorrow's native son He will not rise for anyone This line is so clever. |

Great Song. I think the narrator is overwhelmed and stressed by human needs and desires. He is jealous of these creatures who are much less "intelligent" than him but seem so much more content living simple existences. The lyrics and images of this song are certainly bizarre but I've always felt it contained a profound message. |
