I really love this song. I think it's abvously about a married girl/woman who's hitting on him and trying to convince him to sleep with her and he's been in that kind of situation a lot, so he's talking about one time that a married girl tried to get in his pants and she was drunk or pretending to be drunk, and he tries to make her see how she doesnt have to do it, like in this part when he says: Like I don't mind Be a big mistake for you to wait and help me waste your time Really love it's fine Said really love it's fine He wouldnt mind to have sex with her, but he's actually telling her that her life is fine and love is fine and she doesnt have to carry that kind of guilt. |

in the song it seems like there's a pete from some part of his life, when he was "called" a bad person and he lost a lot of things, and he was taken to prison, and he also did something reall bad to a girl. And that Pete is talking to the new pete, who just came out of prison and he's trying to change by murdering the old pete, the one who did all the bad things, and he comes out as a new person, but this old pete's saying he can't change who he is and nobody's gonna love him again, "he can change his life, but he won't change their minds". but what "could roll a four, could roll a nine" mean?? |

| The Libertines – Music When The Lights Go Out Lyrics | 17 years ago |

you all make pretty good points but i think this song is about a guy who has a relationship with a girl but he realizes that he doesn't love her anymore, but he still cares a lot about her. and he wonders if "it's cruel or kind" to tell her what he feels and he'd rather to tell her all the bad things he's done but tell her that he doesnt love her anymore. And "alarm bells ring when she says her heart still sings when she's with him" because it means she does love him but he no longer hears the music, he doesn't feel the same she does. But he says the moments they've shared together, such as getting drunk and high, and taking baths together but all the things that come along with a relationship "the highs and the lows" left him "dizzy", he doesn't want that anymore. And he doesnt want to hurt her but all the magic is gone, because they've both changed. The lights went out, the pasion desappeared. Lovely sad song... |
