Norma Jean – Birth Of The Anti Mother Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about lies and liars.

"From the bloodline of vicious serpents, a dreadful heart within a lovely shell.
A demon's heart, but with the face of god."

Lies are serpents of man, 'cause we use them to reach our own goals or to hide the truth for somebody else - with other words: They work for us. Lies are often/mostly harmful, but we hide it, and make them look good and innocent.

"I guess a liar's heart is still true even if her lips are not."

So here he sums up that what we know/mean/think not always agrees with what we say.

"The vomit that flows out from your mouth has seeped into your chest.
Searching for the strength to breathe in one last lie from you,
but right now the grave seems so much easier."

So the more we lie, the more it infects ourself. We maybe start to "believe" our own lies, or our conscience takes damage so we start to lie even more.

"Searching for the strength to breathe in one last lie from you,
but right now the grave seems so much easier."

This is a picture of how tired he is of all the liars. I don't think it's the persons he hates, but it's the acts.

"The fear of that devil in me... it comes from you.
You're like the smoke in the window."

But by watching all the liars and experiencing the effect of the lie on his own body, he starts to be afraid of the "devil" inside himself. So his hate against the lies makes him realize that his is no better himself.
When there is a fire, there is also smoke. But the first thing you see is the smoke, and it warns about the fire. So when he says "you're like the smoke in the window" he is saying, that all the liars have warned him about how he also can be.

"She comes for sorrow. She comes for lies."

This line is refereeing to the devil. The mother of the lies.

"We came here for blood. Did you? Yes or no?
No one's getting out because we came for blood."

When someone is bleeding, he or she is hurt. So he is talking about fighting. Fighting against Satan and all the lies.
And then he is asking if "you" also came to fight. This "you" can be us as listeners, but it can also be directed to Satan, and the we are included ind the "we" at the start.

"We're not breathing and i don't care,
because no one's breathing... she's not breathing."

Breathing is a sign of living. But it's also a symbol of freedom. So he is saying, that in this fight we are not breathing. We are not free. We have to give up some of our freedom. 'Cause if we want to defeat Satan and get him out of our lives, we have to give up a lot of things. Such as sin...
But then he says that "She is not breathing". And that's right! Satan is not free neither. He is already defeated, and can only harm us, if we are sinning. So the only territory where he rules is inside sin.

"Choke that witch out.
Suffocate her.
Choke her out."

So we can choke Satan out of our life and make him Suffocate by giving up on things like lying and other sins, cause then he got less and less freedom, and less and less breath.

"We will burn for this.
We will both of us burn."

These 2 lines are interesting though.
To me the say 2 things.

1. We know for a fact that Satan is gonna burn in Hell according to the Bible.
But Cory says that they are both gonna burn for this. So maybe he wants to say, that all this hate he has against Satan is also wrong. The Bible teaches the christians to love their enemy, remember?

2. This one is what I think is the most "correct".
Because off all the sin Cory has been committing (as a result of Satan's temptations) he is also sentenced to spend eternity in Hell like Satan. Cause the price of sin is eternal death. BUT!!! Because Jesus died, he took the punishment, so we can go free from the flames.
Unfortunately we often forget that sin is a serious thing that causes eternal death and flames, because we always count on God's mercy and take it for granted to be saved. So I think Cory wants to remind us about how big and serious Sin actually is - that it leads to death. But it also shows how much we have been saved from.

Most of the songs at The Anti Mother talks about a female figure. I think this female figure is a picture of Satan because women can tempt men to do a lot of wrong things, just like Satan is doing to the mankind.

Birth of the anti mother is describing how Satan is tempting us and filling us up with sin. How we start to fear him, but at the other hand can't let go of him. So he ends up destroying us.

This song is talking about how Cory hates Satan for what he has done to him. And how he hopes Satan will be tortured for all the misery he has caused.

I'm not sure if I got it all right, but this is my first thought after hearing the song.

"Open that door" referees to the "Memphis will be laid to waste"-lyrics where it means to open up and let sin get into your life.

"I’ll follow you into that space.
Where nothing is regretted then forgotten."

If we start to sin it's hard to stop again and we go into that place where nothing is regretted (because often we do not even think about our daily sins), but it will never be forgotten by God.

"Where is that grace that carries me out?
So strange it’s mine."

So it's amazing that God has given grace and forgiveness to us and for our sins.

"It’s closed and locked but If you open that door,
It won’t be yesterday when,
Before the days of collapsing,
And I’ll stand through all these lines just to make it back to you."

God created us without sin. Sin was locked away, but if we open the door i won't be anymore.
And yesterday before the world collapses means before he started committing this ever-returning sin.
He would have stood through all the lines (he would have been a good example and not opened the door) but now he is just making it all back to God (he is doing all the wrong things this song is warning about).
Summary: Before he started doing this sin he thought it would be easy not to open the door, but now he has opened it.

"Can you help me every step of the way?
We can bury that battle and bury the cause.
There is nothing that I can say because I was wrong this time. "

Asking God for help and strength to defeat this sin and get it out of his life. And he admits that opening the door was wrong.

"Everyone knows
Cause they see the glare in our eyes.
Careful now, don’t drown your self in sorrow.
I was the one that built that cross and weighed you down and now
I’ll carry on till it’s over… and it’s over"

This part is hard, but i guess he is talking about how it is our fault that Jesus died on the cross - because of all our sins. And yet he (we) will continue sinning tough we know the price.

So all in all the song is about how we all fall into sin, but God has given us grace and mercy, and he got the power to help us trough this life. But even tough we know how much he has suffered for us, we still continue in our own ways.
