I love the Velvet Underground, and I love this song. This song has always spoken to me. The reason this is so is because this song has a feeling of isolation attached to it, and that feeling has plagued me for much of my life. Also, to me this song means almost choosing whether or not to be isolated. "Oh, someday I know someone will look into my eyes and say hello -- you're my very special one-- but if you close the door, I'd never have to see the day again." It's as if someone's saying, "While waiting for someone to find me and love me, it's hard to not just close the door, not let anyone in, and just descend into a state of isolation." That's what it's always meant to me, and even if it's not the intended meaning, it'll always hold that meaning for me. Great band; great song. Love it! |

I love it. It is the story of a great disillusionment from all of the things people tell you when you are young. it's especially fitting if you turn out in a way that puts you in the minority. it speaks very strongly to me and my journey to find myself and understand what i should do. |
