Bayside – Head on a Plate Lyrics 17 years ago
This seems to me, not that individuals are getting too much attention, but that everything follows the kids who are all the same. The kids want more pop-punk music (which is, in my opinion, good in moderation) so more pop-punk bands exist and all begin to sound very much the same. The kids want a certain type of clothing, so even if you don't want to follow the fashion and be the same as everyone else, it's difficult not to because what's most readily available is what's fashionable (which is extremely annoying to say the least).
"With tied wrists, we're under they're control
With fists clenched, we're taking on the world" These two lines to me, seem to contradict each other, saying, these kids are dictating what everyone wants. We'll take 'em on by doing something different.
In the chorus he is saying, these fashions come and go, the up-and-coming bands came and went 'cause they were just playing the music that was fashionable at the time, he's doing something different, so perhaps they will never be as big as some of these bands, but at least they will last. "Music back to music" Music shouldn't be a fashion. Fashions come and go, that is not what he wants as a musician.

Bayside – I and I Lyrics 17 years ago
Note the "I and I we're taking control of our lives..." Is gang vocals. It's about him realising he needs to take control of his own life and he's passing on what he's learned to others "I'm sharing that comfort..." When they all sing together "I and I..." it's about coming together to get a grip of their own lives, Each "I" is a different person. They are encouraging everyone in the crowd that "everything's alright" And I think the "If I could choose my own name..." is kind of saying that there will be anger along the way about various things, but you learn to control it "But with timing and class" Perhaps like his lyrics, angry and aggressive sometimes, but with timing and class? I guess that's up to you to decide.

Emily Haines & the Soft Skeleton – Doctor Blind Lyrics 17 years ago
For anyone who is interested:

"The song is partly addressing this new phenomenon of pharmaceutical companies marketing directly to consumers. In North America, they make a pill, throw in the standard 'Ask your doctor' line and never tell you what it's for. And then you get these adverts with women standing on hilltops looking refreshed. It blinds consumers to the truth and entices them to want it. I really wanted to bring out the fact that this sense of malaise and this fascist approach to the human spirit should not be tolerated at this juncture. It bothers me that no one has the patience to deal with someone who is just sad. I felt that setting the video in a drug store would allude to the fact that everyone is just partying on Prozac."

It is about doctors blindly perscribing drugs, and no-one seeing that this person is just sad and needs comfort, rather than pills.

Metric – Gimme Sympathy Lyrics 17 years ago
Isn't the key line "You gotta make mistakes you're young"?
I think it is just sayin' don't hold yourself back for anything. Take the risks, open up as a person and don't worry about the consequinces 'cause it won't last forever. Perhaps they mean as a band (they cannot be a band forever) or just in general, you're not young forever, so go for it.
