Emilíana Torrini – Bleeder Lyrics 17 years ago
She's saying to man that he is only human. He is not immune to avoiding extreme emotions. Those could be love, as indicated by "park your head upon my pillow", "closer to my body", etc.

That extreme emotion could also be some type of major loss: "trees dress in crows", "humble as a hope", "through the rains that bring you down", "when things go wrong".

I'm leaning toward a connection between the two...during a time of great loss, the first major feeling the can lift the man's spirit is love.

Also, the last line is my favorite. I don't know if it was intentional, but it is a beautiful representation of a Christian message...it is not during times of wealth and prosperity, but rather sickness, poverty and/or dispair that people generally find the truth about Jesus Christ. This is clearly stated througout scripture, in billions of people's lives in history, and also in the poem "Footsteps":

One night I had a dream--
I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord
and across the sky flashed scenes from my life.

For each scene I noticed two sets of footprints,
one belonged to me and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of my life flashed before me,
I looked back at the footprints in the sand.

I noticed that many times along the path of my life,
there was only one set of footprints.
I also noticed that it happened at the very lowest
and saddest times in my life.

This really bothered me and I questioned the Lord about it.
"Lord, you said that once I decided to follow you,
you would walk with me all the way,
but I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life
there is only one set of footprints.
"I don't understand why in times when I needed you most,
you should leave me."

The Lord replied, "My precious, precious child,
I love you and I would never, never leave you
during your times of trial and suffering.
"When you saw only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

"I've been a fan of Shinedown for a while, but this song just sounds too...simple and generic.. "

The lyric meanings are pretty straightforward, but this song is amazing and definitely not generic. It has some vocal melodies that ONLY brent smith could pull off. man shinedown just owns.

please come to louisville soon, guys!!!

Shinedown – Sound of Madness Lyrics 17 years ago
I hope I'm wrong, because I'm a Christian and Shinedown is my favorite band. But the song seems to be saying that they don't buy Christianity or any other religion that believes in Heaven. Especially the verse about a "tombstone mentality". I can see the rest of the song just applying to emo's or whatever.

And really, the anti-emo interpretation of the entire song seems more consistent with just about everything else they've done and said. Brent has talked about on God on stage at least a couple times here in Louisville (not long, not preaching or anything). So I hope I'm wrong, but that's my 2 cents. Amazing song, btw
