Cody laments about how the media, religion, or any other facet of structured society "fixed your brain when you were young" and how these undisputed structures of thought take away the individual's voice and independent thought leaving only a mute and hollow shell of a human being, dependent on the systems that be to provide a substitute for their soul. Many blindly follow these man made structures such as religion believing that they are serving as the "Good Lord's good sheep", but they obliviously act as "wolves" under sheep's clothing. Television serves as a tool for this brainwashing as starting from a young age we all peer into the "containers of light". The song mentions the accolades of society's technological advancements: "We got our sidewalks. We got all of our safely lit streets. We got all of our light tested beliefs." However, mankind has yet to learn the simplest act of loving. Whenever man gets glimpses of love, he corrupts, perverts, and destroys her only to "watch her get lost in the wake" with the deepest regret that comes from the tacit knowing that mankind as a whole hasn't really gone advanced at all and that we are all "Sheepdog" with our hair covering our eyes, so we blindly follow. |
