I'm not quite sure myself when it comes to the song itself; it seemed to say to me that there was some kind of problem in a relationship but I'm starting to think along that young couple line. Ih-Ah seems kinda like sex to me but I can't see him referencing that in such a tender song somehow, if you see what i mean |

there's alot of stuff Devin said about this album being very much a case of anger being controlled where before it was just let free; I'd say this is the most prime example of it on the album. I'd say it deals mostly with a kind of frustration of existence in a broad sense, and it's exhaustion; it comes out most for me when he finally lets loose and sings about being a man and everything, it's like you really feel the sarcasm and anger, and it's all the more impacted by the comparative silence of the rest of the song. |

I agree with Danny, it does seem to be a progression through life and the different events; I always got the feeling listening to this song though when he repeats 'never bothered' and 'there is no other' that there was some kind of missed oppertunity. You know I've heard that when Devin finished mixing this song, he hid under his desk because he was scared of it! I think I would be too though if I wrote something this deep |

ZeroSignal's got it pretty much right I think; there must be a deeper meaning about the futility of religion though; the lyrics really say it all, I just wish the religious among us would lighten up already! Have you noticed though, that because their views were offended the acted like the superior ones? anyone notice a slight trend there for the past few millenia? just saying :P |

yeah it was actually; half of Carmageddon's soundtrack was an instrumental version of the Demanufacture album. The songs included Demanufacture, Zero Signal and Body Hammer, and you can get the Mp3s if you put in your old Carma CD; it's worth a listen, hearing it with and without Burton lets you hear the song in a different level of musicality, I think anyway! |

To me this song is about somebody who's lost everything and sunk into madness; 'overload' 'shattered pictures' 'been through the grinder' all seem like metaphors for snapping inside to me. I think that the guy in question wants to take a woman to this room 429, who he's developed an obsession for. (standing outside her window watching her sleep, outside her door with a knife) he wants to take her back to this room where he feels safe, and end his life with her (When they knock at the door the lights are on, but we ain't home = the lights are on, but the people inside are dead now). also the "we'll tell the world outside the door that we aint never coming back no more" point to them never leaving the room. |
