Secondhand Serenade – Pretend Lyrics 17 years ago
It's clear that this song is about a relationship that is failing. I believe the person who is singing (in this case John Vesely ofcourse), has been in a relationship that for a long time, worked, was great, but for a while now has been slowly deteriorating. He loved this relationship SO much that everything that has been happening, he has not wanted to accept about leaving it since it was so good. Now, he is finally realizing, this relationship is full of lies, it used to be "rainbows" meaning it used to be wonderful, but now he's blind to all of the colors, everything is a lie, it's not the same love it used to be anymore.

Personally, i look at it as, the other person in the relationship wasn't faithful to him. Either she didn't have enough time or him, cheated on him, or most likely just doesn't care about fixing or holding the relationship together anymore. Since he cared, he tried and tried, but now sees it as useless, he's hung on too long, and is finally accepting "I can face the truth" that she doesn't love him anymore. In the line "Please let me be free from you" you can FEEL the desperation he feels, of just wanting to be free from the pain of being in a relationship with someone who just doesn't feel the same way.

It's so SCARY how much I relate to this song right now. It's painful, but this song actually made me REALIZE where my relationship is. It hurts so bad, but this song is so beautiful :(.
