La Roux – Growing Pains Lyrics 16 years ago
For me it's about knowing how you feel, but also knowing that the world/other people would view you differently. They don't care, but if you could see it like them you would just be fickle like all the others- leave what you felt so intensely before behind. But still, the song doesn't quite let go of the importance of the feeling an individual can feel, and how much it matters to them.

It dwells on the absolute lack of sympathy you find in other people, when they disregard what you feel. Your only 'reasonable' choice of action is to accept what others say/do. But it doesn't feel right and it's with you, always. Any 'angst', as it were, is just growing pains- but only the individual can know better and realise it's more than mere post-pubescent blues.

Keane – Staring at the Ceiling Lyrics 16 years ago
About wanting more? Does this song imply that you should be happy with what you've got?

Keane – My Shadow Lyrics 17 years ago
This song really puts things into perspective for me. It tells me that I can escape the times when the microcosm of my life gets me down. I can move on, do other things and embark on something really fulfilling and worthwhile, if unorthodox.

Keane – The Lovers Are Losing Lyrics 17 years ago
Hmm this is tricky but I'll give it a go. One of the main themes of the album is apparently the contemporary world, and so this could be a critique on that.

So perhaps it's about people not being happy with the simple things; needing this Hollywood style romance and quick fixes.

However, the protagonist seems to have things already, since he dreams he has nothing. Perhaps he feels out of touch with the materialistic values of the Western world, and therefore feels separate, alone and muffled by it.

Maybe the song is an appreciation that we all strive for love, the everlasting fabled love of a halcyon time which is simply unreachable.

Keane – Spiralling Lyrics 17 years ago
When I heard it the first time and thought it was too different, then after a few listens it really does ring true to their other stuff- the lyrics are good as usual, chorus is good. Still, my favourite Keane songs are never the ones released as singles.

As for what it's about...

The futility of ambition? The impossible task of acquiring the perfect life, perfect partner, or being the perfect person? "The light" is perhaps the appreciation that the simple things are important and most satisfying in life.

Making massive effort for empty things leaves you... empty.
