The Smiths – I Know It's Over Lyrics 15 years ago
A woman he loved but refused to take seriously has left him.
He was a cocky male unable to give up his freedom.
It was over before it even began because the woman showed and expressed her love from the beginning.
However, the protagonist hid all admirations and desires he felt towards her.
They loved each other, but neither knew the extent of each others love.
It was easier to say "I love you" lying next to the person.
It was easier to say "I hate you" than trying to work things out.
And although she left him, she still loved him.
And although he let her leave, he loves her.
He also knows this man she is marrying is not the love of her life, he is.
She's marrying this proud dominant man more so for security than love.
She realizes love is just a fantasy, endurance is not about love is about well keeping.
If you are kept, you'll remain.
If you are loved, you will be hated someday.
Love has no permanence, ("It takes strength to be gentle and kind").
Not a song of regret because the man knew from the beginning that no matter how much he cared for this woman he was set in his ways. He will change for no one.
What woman doesn't try to change a man? No one's perfect so it comes down to compromise or in this case, settling for one or two qualities instead of the whole "Concept of love".

The Smiths – This Night Has Opened My Eyes Lyrics 15 years ago
It's not about a gay friend.
It's not about a doctor.
It's not about rape.
Rapists don't make promises("Oh he said he'd cure your ills")
The song is not about abortion, but giving up the child ("Dump her on the doorstep, Girl")
What this is is a story of a young girl and a slightly older man. They promise each other the world as their relationship turns intimate. Always promising each other a pure painless future. But in all actuality, their acts of love turn their lives upside down. This love they felt would end all pain and suffering has only made life more miserable.
Adult acts, a child as a result.
A childish act (giving the baby up), nothing but guilt and memories.
This song is truly about how dumb love makes us.
We think only good imaginative things can come of it.
When in reality, living in this fantasy makes life hell.
Now, they both will live out their lonesome lives bathing in guilt of what could have been had they kept the child.
Everyone has been there.
Fallen in love, thought the world was your oyster.
You THINK you can control the outcome of your life so as long as you have this person beside you.
Always looking to the future, never looking to the past.
The result, a love child neither parent wants to claim.
THIS NIGHT HAS OPENED MY EYES AND I WILL NEVER SLEEP AGAIN.
Love blinds consequences until that night...
