Chiodos – Hey Zeus! The Dungeon Lyrics 15 years ago
Surprised no one's commented on this one yet. Great song, and it's pretty obvious that it's written from the phantom's point of view from "The Phantom Of The Opera." The lyrics "I come down from the catacombs in the opera house. I hide my face while I long for her lovely voice." definitely point towards that meaning. Love the breakdown where he starts screaming "I am a monster!" So sick. An awesome album all the way around as well.

Avenged Sevenfold – Nightmare Lyrics 15 years ago
yeah that whole Jacob's Ladder theory does make a lot of sense, and on top of the symbolism in the song, i just saw the video the other day for this song and it looks like it was taken right out of the movie Jacob's Ladder in the scene when he's in the hospital on a gurney and he he begins to see all sorts of terrifying sights and the movie makes you think that you're in hell in that scene. Which is why using that scene in the video for Nightmare made so much sense...well to me anyway.

Eminem – 8 Mile Freestyle Pt.III vs "Papa Doc" Lyrics 16 years ago
he was callin them out for being fakes and ripping off of tupac's style, while also stating that none of them are on his level and that they never will be. and yeah it's definitely a diss toward the whole crew, pretty much metaphorically expressing how he has no respect for any of them.

....such a sick way to end that freestyle battle. weezy ain't got shit on shady. there i said it.

Eminem – Deja Vu Lyrics 16 years ago
agree with everyone here. best song off of relapse, and "underground" is in a very close second. as an ex drug addict it really hits home with me because he captures it perfectly what it's like to be trapped in that cycle of addiction where you keep making excuses to use. it's a damn powerful song.

The Black Dahlia Murder – Thy Horror Cosmic Lyrics 16 years ago
thank god people still do research and know their shit (Stein and tdbmfan012991 respectively.) Anyone who has read any of the Cthulhu mythos will be able to tell immediately that's who the song is referencing, and since H.P. Lovecraft is one of my favorite authors of all time not only do i love this song, but anything that has traces of Lovecraftian elements is the shit. Awesome song, another one that references Cthulhu from what I can tell is also "Of Darkness Spawned." The Black Dahlia Murder are the shit, and seeing them live is amazing as well.

The Human Abstract – Vela, Together We Await the Storm Lyrics 17 years ago
this song is so epic. one of my favorites by this band, oh who am i kidding Nocturne is one of the best cds i've heard in a long long time. protest the hero and BTBAM are amazing too, but i digress. the fact that they open this song with such a beautiful classical guitar piece and piano solo in the track before always gets me so hyped up and by the time that first chord rings i get the chills. so awesome.

Marcy Playground – Opium Lyrics 17 years ago
okay i have to put my two cents in because i'm a former heroin addict that has now been clean for nine months. this song whenever i hear it makes me wish i was back in that place, but at the same time it reminds me of the sickness. for me the song, as well as the way it's sung and played all remind me for some reason of being there in that beautiful nothingness where nothing matters and life is beautiful because the drugs lull you into a false sense of security and happiness.

blue like water
blue like heaven is all of the time
(i'm in a perfect place where nothing can touch me, the drugs have taken me to a place where i am invincible and nothing can bring me down.)

and i'm all right
i'm just gagging on all the alright
(for me this reminds me of the fact that when you're on opiates you're breathing is depressed and at times when a person is nodding out they have to catch their breath in order to feel alright...a strange interpretation, but just try and stay with me here.)

i'm so happy, yeah happy
i'm in heaven yeah heaven oh
oh the season's come for opium
(at this point in the addiction everything is perfect and the addict has a relationship with the drug where it makes them happy all of the time. there is no way that they are going to stop because they want to stay in this happy place.)

Mom, mom

(For me this is where you come back to earth in the song. it's a crash course in reality where you realize that the drug is gone, you can't go back there without it, and you're experiencing the worst pain you've ever felt physically and mentally due to withdrawals.)

I'm so happy, yeah happy, oh oh
I'm in heaven, yeah heaven, oh oh

(The addict is now conflicted with what they should do. they don't want to quit because it takes them to cloud 9, but at the same time they're crying for help every time the drug is gone)

Oh the seizures come from opium

(In the end one of two things happen. either the addict dies, or they get off of the drugs entirely and that is where the seizures come in from the hardcore withdrawal that they have to face when they're time with the drug is over. they may have been in heaven, but now they have to go through the fires of hell just to get back to a middle ground.)

Sorry if this is ridiculously in depth but me and this song go back a long time. I've been addicted to every type of opiate there is and i've been listening to this song since the beginning. for some reason it was always comforting to me, but it wasn't until i got clean that the song not only points out the euphoric aspects of opium, but it also shows the horrific affects of addiction put in a subliminal and brilliant way. amazing song.

Armor for Sleep – Chemicals Lyrics 17 years ago
in my opinion this song is definitely about a person that was addicted to drugs that the singer knew, and how drugs can destroy a person, and from personal experience i know that firsthand. it's a bad ass song with a good message. good stuff. What To Do When Your Dead is a masterpiece but i gotta say this song and the other stuff i've heard from the new album is awesome as well.
