This song isn't so hard to interpret...the speaker is still in love with a love he once had. She no longer loves him...a classic case of unrequited love. She all of a sudden realized she never did love him, without a clue as to why she stopped loving him. This kills the speaker but he knows he can't stop loving her, even if nothing has changed. |

I can't get enough of this song! I listen to it at least five times a day. The whole album is wonderful...I still don't own it, and I refuse to download it illegally, so I have to wait till I get my next b-day/christmas gift =/ I would have to agree that the song is about the relationship Robin and Sean had. |

well, I have to say that this is a great song... J. Tillma is just so talented, solo and in Fleet Foxes as for interpretation, I think that this song is pretty self-explanatory. he recalls a cold night were he and his significant other had been drinking, hence the "can't see straight" line. as they drove away they got into a car accident causing the "steel on steel" sound. He had no time to react since everything moved so fast. He survives the wreck, but she doesn't, causing him to blae himself every time he thinks about it. He see's how fragile life is and wonders "does nothing last?" He probably has nightmares about the incident, causing him to relive the event every night. He probably see's life as meaningless without her since he thinks it is a curse to have survived and lived. This song seems so uplifting due to the beat, yet it's such a downer when you read the lyrics |

i totally agree with the song being about an abusive relationship.. The first time i heard this song, i knew i must have it...This song is definetely about someone's self struggle about their feelings about the other person. It's clear when he sings "I wouldn't want you to want To be wanted by me" and "I only really wanted to be wanted by you" that he feels something for that person but does not want that person to feel anything, but of course he admits to really want the person to have feelings for him.
