Nightmare Of You – Thumbelina Lyrics 17 years ago
These are the actual meaning to the lyrics.

WARNING: If you plan on reading the book Even Cowgirls Get the Blues this may spoil it for you.

/hey dainty girl flailing on the side of the road with your great thumb in the air/

The main character Sissy has giant thumbs, her whole life she hitchhikes.

/I hope you don't mind me asking but what happened to your underwear/

Because of the size of her thumbs she can not wear a bra, she can not do the connector.

/and does your humble husband know of 'ee hitchin' seedy path with car operating sexual deviants/

She runs off from her husband and hitchhikes to a ranch across the country, dealing with perverts on the way.

/but julian would never understand
And doesn't he know?
Just because he's a painter and he loves you
It doesn't mean that he has got a clue/

Julian is her husband, he is a painter...

about

/To that brass cowgirl with her hands petting your crotch
and humping you in towering grass
naked and gender bending/

This refers to the character Bonanza Jellybean, who Sissy has a lesbian relationship with. (It's important to note the difference between sex and gender here, neither of them are transsexual or hermaphroditic.)

/but jelly bean you can never comprehend the intellect of her mind
and just because you can make her come with your hand it doesn't mean she'll be your woman./

Jellybean is a person, and come means cum, literally. It's not a metaphor, or figurative, and it doesn't have a double meaning.

/But 'twas a loon on the hillside
planted a seed between your thighs
You fancy him as your therapist
but he's just a sadistic sodomist who gave you the bastard kid/

The loon on the hillside is a character known as The Chink, they have a sexual relationship (including sodomy) and she eventually bears his child. The usage of the word loon may have a double meaning here as throughout the book she says repeatedly that 'she has a way with birds.'

That's it, the song is basically just a summary of the book. There is a lot that is left out so don't feel like it will ruin it for you, it is worth reading.
