just for the hook, i think the douchebags, a**holes, scumbags, jerk-offs part is actually Kanye being sarcastic. after the T. Swift incident a year ago, people called him all those words (if they didn't already think that of him before the incident). he's actually trying to justify what he did by saying that artists like him (Jay-Z, Beyonce, Eminem, etc.) work their asses off and he just couldn't sit there and see someone else, who in his opinion did not put as much work into whatever, get the awards. he's simply speaking about giving credit where credit is due. i think he believes that he just voiced out what everyone else was thinking and if that makes him an a**hole then he can live with that. so i guess the toasting part is him saying to his fellow artists, here let's toast to our success regardless of awards or recognition, hoping that they'd get drunk with him and actually say what's on their minds. this is just for the hook though. |
