| Elbow – Whisper Grass Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I love homophones :-) Glendarian, if it was written on a grassy shelf with the wind whispering through the grass, then I'd go with 'shelf' too. |

| Elbow – Whisper Grass Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I always thought this was a domestic...I play it when there has been a row at home, but as it was written sat on a boulder on the side of a mountain in Scotland, maybe it was a strong difference of opinion within the band. 'the air gets thin, i came down, gave in'...Nowhere to actually go in the middle of nowhere so gave in on the storming off. 'God above, and not much else' the force of nature much bigger than man's concerns 'Granite cold detatched' describes the boulder, and the feeling. Song title reminds me of the inkspots song 'Whispering Grass'...asking how you could grass him up? |

| Elbow – Friend of Ours Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I'd like them to sing this song live, but it would be gut renching if people there who were not really listening to the song chatted through it. It would be like disrespecting Bryan and his friends, so it might be better if they don't. | |
| Elbow – An Audience with the Pope Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
It was like an Audience with the Pope, when after the concert, people who had come to see and listen, began forming a polite queue, everybody in line, waiting in awe for the privilege of a brief meeting and to give words of thanks. It was about catholisism, it was about sex, it was about being a superhero on stage at eight, when the girl the superhero was really waiting for, was not there. |

Thanks, I changed it, I'm stuck on some of the lyrics that are unclear on 'Every Bit The Little Girl' so may need help on that one. |

| Elbow – Lay Down Your Cross Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
This song has the word 'Love' in it 40 times. This is the later version...the 2002 radio 1 version had a couple of lines different. 'kick of your shoes' instead of 'Cross off your day' and 'Let's crush the cap on that whiskey' instead of ' Lie where you lay' and later 'Dinner is served' All you've deserved |

| Elbow – Picky Bugger Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
My Dad said 'Keep your powder dry' as I was leaving the house one day...I thought he was quoting 'elbow' at me! as I'd only heard the phrase in this song, till he explained: 'Be prepared' Advice attributed to Oliver Cromwell (see quot. 1834), combining spiritual exhortation with the practical measure of making sure that one's gunpowder is kept serviceable. "Put your trust in God, my boys, and keep your powder dry. [1834 Colonel Blacker Oliver's Advice in E. Hayes Ballads of Ireland (1856) I. 192]" |
