| Billy Bragg – Tank Park Salute Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"You were so tall How could you fall?" Brings a lump to my throat every time I listen to it. Billy is a true lyrical legend and is totally engaging when he speaks, I love him! |

| Gene – Drawn to the Deep End Lyrics | 17 years ago |
In the live version from The Albert Hall, at the end Martin sings: "Sometimes I wanna die, I'm sorry" |
| Billy Bragg – Walk Away Renee Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"I went home and thought about the two of them together Until the bath water went cold around me" That's such an evocative and sad line. My mate got me into Billy Bragg about 20 years ago and, while I haven't got everything he's ever done, I still think he's easily the best lyricist ever. The last line of this song is just brilliant, the stark realisation that she isn't something special! |

| The Smiths – There Is a Light That Never Goes Out Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| An all time top 10er! | |
| The Smiths – Well I Wonder Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The way Morrissey holds the "e" of please, the long outro instrumenatl that fades into the rain at the end of the song are just the perfect ending to this beautiful song. Genius is a word used far too much but in the music worl Morrissey and Marr together ARE exactly that. |

| The Jam – Wasteland Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It's a great track but I prefer the cover that Gene did. Sorry. Class words though. |
| Interpol – NYC Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Haunting | |
| Gene – For The Dead Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Correction to the above, To See The Bright Lights wasn't a Gene album! To See The Lights was though! | |
| Gene – For The Dead Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This was the first Gene song I'd ever heard. It was on a laserdisc music thingy in my local and I put it on about 6 times on the trot, my mates were threatening to pull my arms off, PHILISTINES! That weekend I went out and bought, Olympian, To See The Bright Lights, Drawn to the Deep End and Revelations and I never stopped loving everything they did. Just like rahtwinkle I love gene too. |
| The Futureheads – Man Ray Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I was told, by Barry's best mate, that it's about masturbation! Anyway, don't care, it's brilliant on cd, it's even more brilliant live. |
| Gene – Speak To Me Someone Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"I'm drunk for your love Speed into my life Speak to me now Just speak to me someone For I know your taste And I can supply" How achingly romantic is that?! Martin Rossiter, I love you! |
| Gene – Where Are They Now? Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Pure poetry, A song about depression, desertion and hope. With the perfect arrangement behind the voice. These boys were vastly, VASTLY underrated. |
| Depeche Mode – In Your Room Lyrics | 17 years ago |
It doesn't matter what the song means! It's ANTHEMIC, the way it builds to up to the 3rd verse is genius. Who would have thought that after the "poppy electro" beginnings and losing Vince Clark that The Mode would still be here and still be as prolific? Dave has the best voice in music bar none. LOVE THEM, LOVE THEM, LOVE THEM. |
| Depeche Mode – Any Second Now (Voices) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love this. You can see where Vince Clark was going with this and what the future held, songwriting wise with Yazoo. AND, you can see that Martin's songwriting and musical influence really is Vince. |
| James – Of Monsters And Heroes And Men Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The highlight of a brilliant album. As usual Tim Booth has managed to paint the perfect picture with words. This time of utter desolation. ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT |
