Richard Hawley – Baby, You're My Light Lyrics 13 years ago
it is an utterly sumptuous song, and Mr Hawley is a national gem. A drunken Pitsmoor genius. Which, in my opinion, is the ideal kind of genius.

On first listening, it does appear to be a love song, which I guess it is. But not in a relationship sense. The song was a sonnet to his new born baby daughter - according to Richard himself in an interview with Mark Radcliffe back in the day when he was still on Radio 1 with Lard - and is, I assume, farther advice to her on how life may turn out, and no matter how good or bad it may be: you'll be alright kiddo.

Elliott Smith – Fake It Through the Day (Miss Misery, early version) Lyrics 17 years ago
i like both versions. couldn't really say which is better. they work like book ends, a call and response type thing. the early version is someone saying 'i love you, and i miss you' and the later version feels like it's written from the other person’s perspective and asks 'do you really miss me?'
it's a cute little twist, even down to changing 'i got plans for both of us' to 'you had plans for both us' and 'it's a comedy from the 70's' to 'it's a comedy of errors'
the perspective has changed.
it's the story of a broken relationship, written from both sides, and sang to the same music... genius!
and sorry to be pedantic ani, but paul wrote 'for no one' but i agree with the comparison.
