i think she broke up with him cause he wasn't making enough money. cause he mentions shiny cars & 9 to 5s.. so i think he's content with his life now & she's still looking for a good guy with a lot of money, while she's struggling for money herself. he wants to give her hell because he thinks it's fucked up that she broke up with him for that reason. |

when he says the rock & roll in their eyes, i don't think it literally means the music. i think it's the personality & attitude that goes along with the music. so for her to remember how she used to be (with that rock & roll attitude) she has to think back to the music.

this is kind of like "Like A Boy" by Ciara, except that one's a little happier.. as if the girl in that song wasn't in a relationship & just wanted to explore the single life of a guy. in this song, the girl obviously knows the strain a guy can cause on a relationship & sees the situation differently.
i generally don't like Beyonce's songs, but i like this one. =) |

well, it's really simple & deff doesn't need an explanation, but i was thinking about it when i was walking home.. she just really wants a really slow, cute relationship with this guy. & she's just some quirky girl that he may not exactly be interested in.. so he's probably with some cool, sexy girl that any guy would be into. she feels threatened by that, so she's unable to express how she really feels to him.

well, i think it's about a girl who always had feelings for him.. & there'd been something between them even when they were first kids ("We were just kids when I first kissed you, In the attic of my parents' house") & even though he's moving on & doing his own thing, she knows that he'll be back for her. & she's known for her entire life that were supposed to be together. she sounds pretty strong & sure of herself & toward the "you will"'s she's getting worried & wondering whether he'll really come back to her. she recognizes their history together, but him moving on like jeopardizes their future together.

um, maybe it's just me, but this song really reminds me of the novel Everything Is Illuminated. you know the part when Safran was fucking around with the Gypsy? like maybe it's cause he's Jewish & the holocaust was about to start & it was sort of that hidden/forbidden love sort of thing.
& i have to say that this song sounds superrr amazing live* =)
