In other words it wasn't a fair trial. |

dickjames does have a point but Tool doesnt always mocks religion. One piece of evidence is in the album "10,000 Days" the songs Wings For Marie and 10,00 Days. These songs show that they don't really attack religion but only question it. I think Maynard really does think in a higher power but as any true person should do is to question it. Though our knowledge may be our lock it is also our key to move forward. To question is to know more about one self and others. As the law states, "For every action there is an opposite and equal reaction". Life doesn't just start something has to cause it. And in turn come the lyrics: There's a shadow just behind me, Shrouding every step i take, making every promise empty, pointing every finger at me. Waiting like a stalking butler who upon the finger rests. Murder now the path called "must we" just before the son has come. This part of the song may mean God, Jesus, and Mary all together. Our shadows are our past. But we must go down to rise up. |

I think wilcodude has hit it on the dot. Maynard, I think, tries to push peoples buttons in order to make themselves realize who they are. my cousin tried to explain this song to me. What he said was that the begining is an interpretation of what we are now. We use to be sheeps but now were carrots. I know it sounds a bit on the whoolulu side but think about it. If God is our sheperd then were the sheep. But when we displace ourselves from religion we ourselves become carrots. Meaning we help each other see the truth that we most of do not see. As for the ending I believe it ties to the crickets. The long cricket sound is suppose to put you to sleep. Or at least long enough to put you in a sorta trance. So that way when the message comes in you can sorta experience a kinda of eye opener to the fact of an illusion. The illusion that we are alone. But at the same time a Higher Power must be held true in order to become a life feeder and eater. As the song goes: Life feeds on Life feeds on Life feeds on Life This is necessary In other words The Cycle Of Life and how it grows beyond our own expectations |
