@[carl102086:36921] I think the whole song is about party , sexuality ( being gay or bissexual ) and drugs. This part seems to be about some party drug ( cocaine or LSD ) . The song writer wants to go out and have a party , and is disappointed with his lover . But he wants to have fun anyway . |

@[Draconius:36849] yeah that´s the beauty of poetry. It is multi dimensional ( like religion texts ). Scientific texts are linear and objective . |

I have read that the song is about being forced by the government to go to war.
War is motivated by greed ( modern needs).
Garden of stone is a war memorial or cemetary.
But I have also a different interpretation for this song, that is about buddhism.
In buddhism , suffering is caused by desire and greed ( direction of the eye).
A buddhist will walk with the hands bound, and avoid desire and greed.
And accept death as natural. |

@[RipItDown:34393] Here I am on 2020 at home in pandemic Brazil . In 2018 there was that Netflix movie Wild Wild Country, in which traditional americans are able to expel ( send away ) an indian mystic cult that was anti-american . American traditions won, and it was a wild wild country for the invasors. |

Lyrics by Alex Lifeson ... quite different from Neil Peart lyrics style ... I think the lyrics are very musical and do not have profound meanings .. as written by a guitar player ... the guitar chords and bassline will say the rest ... |

I also agree with Schwealdsondottir and AppleScruffs.
If you remeber one 'Flaming Lips' song named "Thank you Jack white for the fiber optic Jesus that you gave me" you will notice that Flaming Lips and Jack White would use some ironic statements to criticize some religious and conservative society members.
It is very clear to me, when I hear the Litte Acrons introduction that kind of idea.
That song musically also reminds me of the Nirvana Nevermind style, very heavy guitar riffs and teenage rebel style.
Thank you Jack White for that great song that you gave us!
Cheers. |

"We find it hard to deal with when our dreams come true."
I think this song is telling us that we are responsible for our own happiness and freedom. It says also that both often come with a higher price, that few people can afford. Because free and happy people will call others attentions, attract their envy.
Great lyrics, I think it´s a very wise song. |

Douglas Adams who wrote The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was aked about why he chose 42 and he said ( I got this from Wikipedia ):
"The answer to this is very simple. It was a joke. It had to be a number, an ordinary, smallish number, and I chose that one. Binary representations, base thirteen, Tibetan monks are all complete nonsense. I sat at my desk, stared into the garden and thought '42 will do.' I typed it out. End of story."
So I think that Chris Martin wanted to pass the same message in this song, which is we always look for big answers in our life, we spend our whole life trying to be good expecting a great grand finale but when we die ... what happens ? 42.
42 means that the meaning of life is a joke ... and we should just be happy while we live, and we should not care about what will happen after that.
