Great song, obviously. I just want to add that I always loved the lyric - A wise man once said, ("We all dead, fuck it") - and I think the wise man Mike is referring to is Roman Emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius. Re-reading Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and this specific lyric keeps popping in my head because it rings exactly true with regard to MA's takes on living and dying. |

I'd be willing to bet Isaac would admit some influence from Vonnegut's 'Sirens of Titan'.
God is just a regular guy and he takes care of himself - so you take care of yourself. Themes straight out of 'Sirens of Titan'. Great book and a great song by a couple of great artists. |

In the second verse I think he is talking about hood rides and the people that drive them. One eyed dogs are the kids/wannabes/thugs with the single vision of having a cool hood ride. So they become hi-fi gods that slam their cars and run primer gray. Hood rides are low, have loud stereos, and often are intentionally run in all primer. I think that is the literal meaning – there probably is a more abstract meaning to it as well that deals with the uselessness of life, the unimportant things that keep life oiled up and going, and ultimately the inevitableness of death. |
