I've read all the comments and I think all of you are way off. This song was written about the struggle of song writing. the last line in the 3rd verse is "looking for a chord" not looking for a home. I haven't seen this corrected anywhere. "Message in a bottle' is metaphor for a written/released song 'I hope that some gets my message in a bottle"is metaphor for hoping people like the song. "Just a castaway on an island lost at sea' is Stings way of expressing the difficulty of writing a song. He as do all song writers feel isolated. "A year has passed since I wrote my note"...another reference to a song he has written. 'And finallly, A hundred billion castaways looking for a CHORD' is a metaphor for the struggle all songwriters feel as they try to write their music. |
