I think it's a man proclaiming his independence from this woman after she's already left. It's his way of saying "fuck you, too" after she's already gone. That he doesn't care anymore, that she can't come back, that...it's done. It's kind of weak, if you think about it. "Well...fine! Fuck you, too!" |

I'm one of those people who listens to music and sings lyrics I make up, but when I found out the lyric was actually, "and the cruelty of that Buick's seat..." I nearly wet myself with excitement - I drive a big, ugly Buick. NEMT: What a keen observation. Is he running from this man in a black car, with a man in the back seat...who smoked up all his income? This song gives you a dirty, vagabond, fugitive feeling. Someone's after you... |

I'm listening to it right now. "We look good side by side walking back to the hotel." Every female listener of Minus the Bear probably wishes she was next to him, in France, drinking with him. |

Wow, I was about to say everything that was said...unfortunately, I came a wee bit too late. : ) Youth, definitely "Don't grow old," everything. Hold onto what you have. We will soon fade away. I really love the bar line, "our friends are packed 'round some no smokin' bar warming on alcohol." It gives the almost glistening song a sort of darkness to it. |

| If he really did feel so empty and left behind, then he wouldn't say "I owe you, don't I?" I think maybe he feels he got the better end of the deal. In most of his music, he doesn't speak of women very fondly - ahem, "Just Kickin' It Like a Wild Donkey" - so I doubt he feels as desolate as everyone claims. | |
