I'm so glad you posted that quote. It's refreshing to know that IB feels the same way about the song as I do. I usually find myself relating to negative music (including much of MM's other material), but I can say without shame that this unrelentingly positive song is one of my favorites.
I also listen to it in a "completely conscious" way (if that makes sense). I know it might be unrealistic to be this positive, but the beat is catchy and there's nothing better lyrically to have stuck in your head.
Their other songs mean more to me when I can think critically, but sometimes I just need a positive vibe when things end up "a bit too heavy." |

can't get enough of this song.
it seems to be a collection of semi-random memories. not sure if there is a clear meaning to the lyrics, but the song evokes a unique type of feeling. I guess I would call it regretful-nostalgia.
great cover, not too familiar with the original. |

I think the song is about an old person (possibly in a hospital or dying) reflecting on his daily life. "appliances have gone berserk, I cannot keep up", "snot nosed little punk", both are things an old person would say. I also think there are a couple of references to drugs ("take me then you'll get relief", "houses move and houses speak"- you'd have to be a little fucked up to say that).
Overall just reminds of a sad elderly person getting by on drugs.
Great song btw. In rainbows version sounds amazing, as do the live recordings I've heard. I'm starting to realize Radiohead's b-sides are often just as good as (if not better than) their studio albums.

It's hard to say the exact circumstances this song is about, but I think I get the vibe they are going for. I definitely detect some tongue in cheek delivery (especially "hands on the bible, god holds you libel") and overall I get the feeling that this is someone trying to come to terms with something that they don't necessarily feel bad about but realize that others (the law, religion, society) will condemn them for. Think victimless crimes or unavoidable inequality. |
