U2 – I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with your analysis. This song is about human yearning - or man's search for meaning in life. The song starts out, searching for 'you'. But who is 'you'? Initially, it is a woman and fulfillment in romantic love. "I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips "

But ultimately, that was not it. Next comes artistic fulfillment and excitement of being in action, 'doing things'. But that was not it either.

Next comes spiritual ideal and his fulfillment in Christ. 'You broke the bonds and you loosed the chains Carried the cross of my shame, of my shame You know I believed it'. But is that the end of his yearning? The end of his search? Nope. He wants more. He is still moving, still learning, still growing - and yes, still yearning.

Ultimately this is a hopeful song.

Natalie Imbruglia – Torn Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about a young Catholic girl losing her virginity and her ambivalent feeling about it . Let's examine the lyric line by line.

I thought I saw a man brought to life,
He was warm, he came around like he was dignified,
He showed me what it was to cry,

The young Catholic girl meets a sensitive man who seems like her ideal - like Jesus Christ ( 'a man brought to life').

Well, you couldn't be that man I adored.
You don't seem to know, seem to care, what your heart is for,

But she is now disappointed because in reality the man is no Jesus Christ.

But I don't know him anymore,
There's nothing where he used to lie,
My conversation has run dry,
That's what's goin' on. Nothing's fine I'm torn...
I'm all out of faith,
This is how I feel,
I'm cold and I am shamed,
Lying naked on the floor,
Illusion never changed,
Into something real,
I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn,
You're a little late, I'm already torn,

Not only that, she is no longer a virgin and she violated her own standards. Now she feels confused and 'out of faith'. All that is real is the shame and coldness of disillusionment after losing her virginity. In a way, she is 'wide awake' now because she no longer has previous illusion about man.

So I guess the fortune teller's right,
I should have seen just what was there and not some holy light,
But you crawelled beneath my veins and now,
I don't care, I have no luck, I don't miss it all that much,
There's just so many things,
That I can't touch I'm torn.

She hoped that this sexual relationship would lead to holy matrimony. But now the brutal reality is that the guy was just interested in sex. She wonders if the ideal marriage of love she had in mind was after all just an illusion. Was she wrong to look at it in 'holy light'? Because in reality, the whole thing was just sex.
