| Nirvana – Radio Friendly Unit Shifter Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| i love how the Vines borrow the intro and pretty much the drums in this song for their song "Outtathaway!" | |
| The Vines – Outtathaway! Lyrics | 15 years ago |
|
songmeanings.net isn't just about song meanings considering the drop down menu for "Select Comment Type" lists General, Interpretation, Lyrics Correction, Meaning, Memory, and Opinion. but i guess no one looks at that. the intro and even the drums are pretty much right outta "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" off of In Utero by Nirvana. c'mon guys, it's an homage, not trying to cash in on the grunge movement. that died long ago (face it, you Cobain diehard fans). i appreciate it cause they decided on "Radio Friendly Unit Shifter" instead of something like "Heart-Shaped Box" or "Come As You Are." |

| Coldplay – Twisted Logic Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
each of our interpretations reflect what is on our mind and how our mind reacts to a song. that being said, environmentalism has been a lot on my mind, so i'm goin with the "State of Fear" and "Wall-E" approach. i'm pretty sure Chris Martin didn't intend this song to be about how we're ruining the earth, but that's the only way i see it every time i hear this song. just a quick analysis: opening my eyes for the first time? smog and pollution is so thick you can't even see the sun. rivers are dry from the factories, rivers are running from the blood of the endangered animals. we go forwards in terms of technology, but it's making us go backward in terms of treating Earth. Earth "belongs to all of us." |

| Coldplay – Twisted Logic Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| considering "'Til Kingdom Come" was supposed to be recorded with Johnny Cash and is a hidden track, it makes all the sense to put "'Til Kingdom Come" at the end of the album. but since "'Til Kingdom Come" is a hidden track, "Twisted Logic" is still the closer :P | |
| Coldplay – I Ran Away Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| to me, this is the warmest sounding Coldplay song. i feel weird inside (that's what she said!) just after the piano solo and the guitar feedback (3:44ish). it's like a warm blanket of sound i wanna curl up in. | |
| Led Zeppelin – How Many More Times Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i think the guitar part from like 3:35 to 5:30 sounds too much "Dazed and Confused" (or is it vice versa?). i guess Jimmy Page got lazy and just copy/pasted it (exaggeration). GOOD song though! | |
| Harvey Danger – Moral Centralia Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i always think of snow when i hear the piano. didn't know Centralia was a city, but pretty sure the original title suggested that the speaker is the center of morals (narcissism). the speaker is so into him/herself that it's not even pride. reminds me of a line in "Get Ready Now" by Rinocerose, "I'm the one who makes you shine." | |
| The Bravery – Public Service Announcement Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| to me, never have backing vocals been so wonderful to sing along since "Sympathy for the Devil" by the Rolling Stones. | |
| Nine Inch Nails – La Mer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| SERIOUSLY! i'm surprised no one has mentioned the live performance yet. maybe there aren't enough real fans or fans with money to see them. i love how for that one song they turn the lights BLUE to really make it the ocean. | |
| Nine Inch Nails – The Day The World Went Away (Quiet) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I prefer this waaaaaaay more to the album version. Apparently the lyrics are about the death of his grandmother which makes this quiet version much better. I think Trent Reznor's singing is much more emotional in this version as well. The double-tracked yells in the background are a really nice touch, too. Just one thing I don't like: the minute long intro of na na na. With iTunes I just set it to start at 0:59. I find it sadder than "Hurt," even "Hurt (Quiet)" haha. |

| Air – La Femme d'Argent Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"argent" is literally silver. if you know the periodic table, silver is Ag. umm, i think in French (like Spanish sometimes, plata) they call money silver. so it could be "the woman of money" or "the woman of silver." either way, i don't hear anything any woman in the song, but i guess it has a feminine sound to it. i agree with B.B. Salt, that part where the piano is just playing and then the bass gets added, and then the sweeping synth and builds up. i <3 the tambourine. should watch the music vid. it's a little different from the studio version (i like the solo piano better in the video). has some nice explanatory notes (of the whole album) and them playing their instruments. i still don't see how La Femme d'Argent fits into the "the musical feeling of mysterious destiny that you get when you look up at the Milky Way in the sky." because there are raining sounds in the song, it doesn't seem as spacey as the other tracks. unless it's raining when you first go outside, and then it clears up and then you see the moon. and then it rains again during the piano solo. finally, i love how no one part is the same. they're all different. sorry this is so long compared to the other posts. |

| Roger Sanchez – Turn On The Music Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i'm so going to copy the music video and get an outfit, a wig, and a ghetto blaster and walk all around town playing this song. | |
| Air – Napalm Love Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
Meaning: I think it's fantastic how they relate love to napalm. "falling in love" = falling napalm. napalm sure is warm and tough, and i suppose strange as a gelatinous gasoline. Opinion: I love how it's so dark in its atmosphere. from the ghostly electric piano sounding-thingy to that descending bass riff, and the awesome drone toward the middle of the song. i can totally imagine them not being able to come up with a title, and then one of them goes, "i got it! it's like napalm!" |

| The Clash – Death Is a Star Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
The lyrics above are incomplete. "Smoking in the dark cinema/ You could see the bad go down again" is repeated at the end. This suggests that this Death figure repeats his killing bouts as Death never stops after all. It's interesting to note that "love" is alluded to several times. "Moved onwards and outwards to love", "even on the sweetest honeymoon", "The killer of love", and "In vain lovers claimed" (i keep on wanting to say "in vain THE lovers"). This could suggest that Death stops for no one, not even lovers. I find the "In vain lovers claimed" lines extremely sad because what I imagine is that in the face of death the lovers denied "that they never had met" and they forsake each other in the hopes of living. But it was all "in vain" and they died anyway. (Side note: I guess you really love someone if you won't betray them in the face of death) And J_R, when he says "The killer's blood flows" it doesn't have to mean that his blood is spilling, it could just mean that his blood is pumping as if he's got adrenaline in him. I think it's also great that this song is all unplugged and has some string instruments. But that's just me. |

| The White Stripes – Astro Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| has anyone else listened to Pink Floyd's "Echoes"? listen to "Astro" at 0:49 or somewhere close there. it sounds like the opening notes of "Echoes". coinkidink, i guess. | |
| Pink Floyd – Sysyphus (Part 3) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| the screaming in this song is pretty much the same screaming in one of the voices in "Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict". | |
| Pink Floyd – Sysyphus (Part 2) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is my favorite part of Sysyphus since you can really hear Rick Wright play and then he sorta goes crazy at the end. | |
| Pink Floyd – Sysyphus (Part 1) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Part 1 is just one part looped over and over again which supports the Greek myth of Sisyphus (tiny spelling difference). | |
| The Doors – The Crystal Ship Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| also for anyone who knows the tiniest bit about probability...1000 times a 1000 equals a million. 1000 pills and a 1000 girls make up a million permutations to "spend your time". i think it should be "waste" since he'd rather be with the girl than on the "ship". | |
| The Doors – The Crystal Ship Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| like i said on "People Are Strange", i can hardly see the drug implications. sure, it might be there, but it's obviously about breaking up with a girl. instead of "unconsciousness" as drugs, it could be that the girlfriend is "unconscious" to the fact that they should be together. i love how he says "the days are bright" since usually bright days mean happy things. | |
| The Doors – People Are Strange Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| honestly, i can't see any drug implications. it just seems so OBVIOUS that it's about when you're feeling depressed, everything else seems depressing too. try playing this song walking through crowds in a subway station or in an airport or on the streets. | |
| Pink Floyd – Matilda Mother Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
any idea why Wright is singing most of the time instead of Barrett himself? i do love how Barrett comes in for the last verse right after the solo. as for the WWII allegory, i think Waters would be more likely to sing about such a serious topic than Barrett so i wouldn't agree. "There was a king who ruled the land His majesty was in command With silver eyes the scarlet eagle Showered silver on the people Oh Mother, tell me more" Wright sings of a childhood story from long ago. "Why'd' you have to leave me there Hanging in my infant air Waiting You only have to read the lines They're scribbly black and everything shines" Barrett is grown up but still nostalgically wishing his mother told more stories. i've seen "air" and "care" but i really can't hear "chair" at all. "Across the stream with wooden shoes With bells to tell the king the news A thousand misty riders climb up Higher once upon a time" Wright continues telling a childhood story especially noticeable by the phrase "once upon a time". "Wandering and dreaming The words have different meaning Yes they did" Now that he's grown up the story changes meaning to him as he has different problems and new situations to encounter. As if the words "wander and dream" in his mind. "For all the time spent in that room The doll's house, darkness, old perfume And fairy stories held me high on Clouds of sunlight floating by Oh Mother, tell me more Tell me more Aaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaah Aaaaaaaah" this time Barrett sings and he isn't telling another story. he's describing the way his childhood stories were being told in a dark room (nighttime bed story) and i'm guessing the "old perfume" was his mother's. he sings "tell me more twice" and proceeds to the "Aaaaah"s which i guess is him crying when a baby. since the mother stopped telling stories the baby began to cry wishing the mother wouldn't stop. for a childhood song it doesn't sound as happy as "It Would Be So Nice" but then again that was written by Wright. the organ solo in the song doesn't sound too happy either. does anyone know what Wright is singing in a high pitch when Barrett starts the line "for all the time spent in that room" (guessing it's Wright)? |

| Gorillaz – O Green World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i don't like the war interpretation since i'm all about the olive branch haha. i never really noticed they were crows until watching the video accompanying the song...crows are usually thought to symbolize death like ravens. i guess the world is dying. i thought of several meanings for the title "O Green World". specifically "green". 1) green as in environmentalism 2) green as in sickly 3) green as in inexperienced. i agree with RTBRAND1's comment on irony. the music sounds so electronic with the beeps and the synth. Albarn's voice sounds like it's coming from a radio transmission. i feel that the only natural thing is the backing vocals with the "aaaaahhs" (couldn't think of a better way to spell it). anything that "rusts into myself" isn't holy at all. "It feels like you're with your father in the place you love..." sounds like the father and son are fishing or camping or some other father-son relationship place that takes place in the "green world" rather than the mechanical one, except "sex and drugs" don't take you to that place at all. and i like it when he repeats lines. "you know me too, you know me too" "i hope sex and drugs rust into myseeeeeeeeeeelf, holy, it feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeels holy". |
