Jethro Tull – Living In The Past Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm surprised nobody has commented on the meter. The 5-beat measure grabbed my attention from the first note.

The unusual time signature whips this lovely song right around, like the breathlessness of a romantic past that'd tempt anybody to reinhabit.

U2 – Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car Lyrics 17 years ago
Bono never writes a song on just one level. Of course this song is about a very spoiled girl and her indulgent daddy.

On the metaphoric level, I hadn't thought about the heroin aspect of this song, but that does make a lot of sense. I also truly appreciate the image of the US standing up to introduce the former USSR to capitalism.

If you missed the religious aspect, think of this song as a mockery of the kind of "prosperity doctrine" that G~d is just some magic santa claus who will give you whatever you ask for.

The Monkees – Daily Nightly Lyrics 17 years ago
I read this song came from a poem Mickey wrote about the November 1966 Los Angeles Curfew Riots.
