Paper Rival – Bluebird Lyrics 17 years ago
I related this song to being close to someone and then them doing something terrible. "bluebird" is like a sweet intimate name you could refer to someone close as, but the introduced aspect blood on the hands and on the carpet is a lot less sweet- "then i'll know where we stand" It's shocking. It's unexpected of the endeared person. It changes the relationship.

don't sing that song>>> something, a tune or action, that would be disagreed with.
don't fly too far>>> not wanting to distance the relationship.
it's a mixed feeling.

i was so intrigued by this song i looked for interviews. the lead singer wrote it because one of his friends killed their parents. he said the song was kind of like that relationship- the audience doesn't know right away that's what it is about; the audience will develop a relationship with the song before they find out it is about this terrible thing. Kind of like he built a friendship with someone who did such a terrible a thing. he said he's still friends with the guy, but from that perspective it makes the mixed message of "don't sing that song/ don't fly too far" have more context.
