Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds – Henry Lee (feat. PJ Harvey) Lyrics 17 years ago
I think Nick Cave draws pretty successfully not just on Poe's style but also on the whole Victorian predilection with the macabre, as well as a style that reminds me of early 20th century/depression era.

He also does a pretty good job of taking traditional/historical themes and putting his own spin on it.

Murder Ballads is a good album to hole up with and listen to when you're pissed off with the world.

Yeah TwistedLittleStar, great idea - or a movie comprising all the murder ballads songs as short stories. That would be sweet...

Alice Cooper – Only Women Bleed Lyrics 17 years ago
AliceCooperChick: a wimpy prelude to a Nickleback song? Nickleback?? Isn't that the band with the frontman who sounds like he's constipated? The made-for-commercial-radio-to-play-25-times-a-day, sickly melodramatic, prefabricated-especially-for-the-35+-year-old-female-demographic band Nickleback? You mean THAT Nickleback?

Anyhoo... one of AC's (many) best.

Alice Cooper – Pain Lyrics 17 years ago
I was 13 when the album Flush the Fashion came out and my brother bought it. It was the first I'd ever heard of Alice Cooper and it became one of those records that I'd fall back on when I got sick of whatever else I was listening to.

Talk Talk, Clones and this song will always be the essential Alice Cooper in my mind, especially this one. Pain, along with Steven and The Awakening from Welcome to my Nightmare, fed to my early teen brain exactly the sort of scary lyrical imagery it craved.

Overall, not a slavish fan, but he had some great songs and this was one of em.
