I heard this on the Seven Ages of Rock Documentry on VH1 that this song is just Stipe remembering the early days of REM in Athens. After they would play shows the band and their friends would go to a local pond or lake and go nightswimming. In the song Stipe goes back now to go Nightswimmg (the first verse) and he realizes that it will never be like when he was younger. (the second verse) his friends aren no longer in town anymore and the careless of youth is no longer in him, "its replaced by everyday" In the third verse he goes deeper into it saying that nothing was better than those days. That "two moons orbiting around the fairest sun" could not describe nightswimming. Two moons orbiting the sun would be a pretty amazing sight, but even something that unbelievable isnt as awesome as nightswimming. I just came off the best summer of my life, I had an amazing time with my band that I play in and our friends. There are many nights after we play a show or even after we would just go somewhere to talk and enjoy each others company. Sometimes we would actually do some "Nightswimming" The song just describes my last few months almost to the T, and as I grow older i feel like this song is gonna mean even more to me. Whenever I hear it I will remember the summer of 2010, and the times we had. REM is awesome, and this song is one of the prettiest songs ever. |

| The song asks the question, Will you stay with me through thick and thin, no matter what. A great song by a great band. If you ever get the chance to see Crack the Sky live, don't pass it up. You won't be disapointed. | |
