Sting – I Burn For You Lyrics 17 years ago
The slow version on Bring on the Night is just about the most sexually charged song I've ever heard. After the main part of the song, Omar Hakim, Sting's drummer on the Blue Turtles Tour, launches into one of the most amazing drum solos you'll ever see/hear. If you love this song but have never seen the movie Bring on the Night, go get it now (the drum solo is not included on the version on the record (they fade out before it), tho that version is good, too).

I hear this song, and I just think of naked people on a bed, with the moon shining in and the breeze blowing the long white linen window curtains over them.

Van Morrison – Into The Mystic Lyrics 17 years ago
Truly one of the greatest songs of all time, in my small opinion. I love it dearly, have listened to it hundreds and hundreds of times over the past twenty-five years, and still have absolutely no idea whatsoever what the heck it all means. But it means something to me, something I'm not sure I can verbalize, because it changes as I do. I like it that way.

What a masterpiece.

Depeche Mode – Somebody Lyrics 17 years ago
When I listen to Martin Gore sing this live on 101, it seems lie he is being sincere. I guess the case could be made that the entire song is false except for the last two lines, but I choose to believe the pervious interpretation: that usually he doesn't go for this kind of romantic nonsense, but with this one particular person, he's making an exception.

Jimmy Buffett – One Particular Harbour Lyrics 17 years ago
Never knew what the Tahitian(?) lyrics at the beginning meant, but now that I do, I love the song even more. One of Buffett's best.

Indigo Girls – Romeo and Juliet Lyrics 17 years ago
They are both near perfect versions of the same song. The original Dire Straits song is understated, with Mark Knopfler playing the wounded lover. Amy Ray takes it in a different direction, while still playing wounded, she adds in more anger. Take your pick- both versions are perfect in their own ways. But if you have never heard the Dire Straits original of this song, do yourself a favor and go see why the Indigo Girls loved it enough to cover it.

Indigo Girls – Love's Recovery Lyrics 17 years ago
i think this is truly an amazing song. The first few lines of both the second and fourth stanzas "There I am in younger days..." and "Oh how I wish I were a trinity..." hit about as close to home for me personally as any lyric I have ever heard.

U2 – Bad Lyrics 17 years ago
I think that Bono often chooses to insert lyrics from other drug songs into Bad also supports the fact that this song is definately about heroin use. In Rattle & Hum he adds in lines from Ruby Tuesday and Sympathy for the Devil. On the Zoo TV tour, he regularly used Velvet Underground's Satellite of Love as an intro to Bad.

Billy Joel – Scenes From An Italian Restaurant Lyrics 17 years ago
Oh for God's sake... he's not talking about drugs in the last line. He's still just talking about wine... it's the theme that ties the threads of the song together. It's laughable to try to turn that into a drug reference. Yes, Joel does reference drugs in quite a few of his songs (Captain Jack, I've Loved These Days, Big Shot, etc.) but this isn't one of those times.

It's a brilliant song, written by a master songwriter/storyteller and the peak of his creative production and it's one of my all time favorite songs.

Billy Joel – Lullabye (Goodnight, My Angel) Lyrics 17 years ago
One of the greatest songs ever written, in my opinion. Simply beautiful. I sing it to my three year old daughter, all the while thinking of my mother, who passed away ten years ago. I hear her singing it to me, even though she never knew this song.

Bruce Springsteen – Blood Brothers Lyrics 17 years ago
I saw the second concert the band did (April 25, 2008 in Atlanta) after Danny's death. Here is how it went: The lights went out, and Danny's face appeared on huge screens above the stage. Blood Brothers began to play on the PA (not live). A single spotlight was on Danny's keyboard. In the dark, you could just barely see the band taking the stage, and they stood and watched the video as it played scenes from Danny's life and years with the band. The entire song played through, and then as it ended, the stage lights came on, and Bruce launched into "Reason to Believe" on the harmonica, flailing around the stage like a madman. From there it was Radio Nowhere and on into the show. What a great night. I'll never hear Blood Brothers the same way again, and the song is even better for me now. By the way, there is video of this on YouTube, if you search for "Springsteen Danny tribute" or something like that.
