its funny, everyone i've ever tried to get to listen to john, they always have some remark like, "ahh he's gayy" or "his music is crap" or "he can't play". but i make them listen. and then read the lyrics to his amazing songs. and their minds completely change. his lyrics are indescribable. |

i've listened to every mayer song, and analyzed them as well. being only 15, i think i've figured most of them out. i can play most of them on guitar too. but i've always overlooked this song. never one of my favorites, which is wierd,because i'm known as the girl obsessed with john mayer. but i heard him play this song live at the 3rd mayer show i went to, and the emotions are so amazing. there's so much behind it. i was nearly in tears when he played it, it was overwhelming. so much passion and meaning. i've finally got it, but i've only figured out what the lyrics mean to me, i think all of his songs mean different things to different people. but everyone can relate to almost all of his songs, so much talent. |

"One hand on the trigger of the telephone Wonderin when the call comes, when you say it's all right You got your heart right" -i think this is where she just arrived back home from visiting him, and she's calling to tell him she got back alright, and he was waiting on the call. "We share the sadness,Split screen sadness" -i think this is a movie reference, where two people are in a long distance relationship, and they are talking on the phone when the screen splits, to show how the two react to words and such. and its a sadness, because they can't "be in the screen together". "all you need is love is a lie..." i relate this verse to a long distance relationship i had once. it was neither one of our faults, we just got tired of not getting to see eachother, so it didn't work out.i think thats kind of what he's saying. "So I'll check the weather wherever you are Cause I wanna know if you can see the stars tonight" -here, i can also relate this to that long dist. relationship. me and my "love" at the time, would sit outside and "look at the stars" over the phone, we thought it was cool to know we were looking at the same stars. "Cause I can't wait to figure out what's wrong with me So I can say this is the way that I used to be" this is a great line, just saying. but i think this song could go both ways, it could be about a long distance relationship, or a fight/breakup. but i think even if it is about a fight or breakup, they weren't living near eachother. |

i'm pretty sure he's refering to blackjack when he says "your not the perfect hand But I dont hit on nineteen" meaning the person he's refering to isn't perfect but pretty close, so why risk loosing it all just to get to perfect. and another kind of green doesn't refer to jelousy, it refers to the grass is greener on the other side. if you'll notice, he says " i don't need another kind of green to know i'm on the right side with you" meaning he doesn't need to see what else is better to know he's got something good. and the lyrics are wrong up there by the way. |

he comes up with lyics that..no one else could ever think of. he's amazing. this song he's basicly saying you can't capture the whole world in one picture, which is easy to learn if you've ever been in the middle of a beautiful place,seen the sunset with "skies are painted colors of a cowboy's cliche'" and you just can't get that on camera.so i think he just wants to be able to share that scene or moment with a loved one but can't..he's trying to tell them that you just have to see it. |
